Interesting thing - 247 composite has them 28 and us 32. But, the 247 only ranking has them at 37 and us at 28. As usual, ESPN gives OM a media bump.

OM is set to finish really strong, and I really don’t care because we aren’t after really any of the same guys. There is usually a couple big in state fish that both schools are still battling for but not as much the case this time. Ty Cooper is the only one that I think both schools are truly fighting for.

Dual threat, so I guess we not interested. Seems to me that this offense could really use a qb that has the ability to take off running.

Ole Miss will finish higher. They're going to add potentially 3-4 more 4 stars and we're only going to add one.
But we're going to have several guys who are 247sports 4 stars, but are composite 3 stars. I think we'll be pleased with our class if we hold on to everyone and close on everyone we're supposed to

We could add more than 2.
Harmon
Calvin Johnson doesn't have ranking yet but is a 4 star talent. We'll see where he ends up
Calloway is still out there. We'll see what happens
Eitherway, Ole Miss's recruits seem to be better in the composite rankings & 247 has their recruits mostly ranked lower, which makes the 2 classes damn near equal.
Either way, both classes are going to be very similar & not a penny's worth of difference on the field.

Go back and look at OM's really good classes under Freeze and it was the same thing. Some people have a problem with 247 but they're generally very accurate when rating recruits. They were on Chris Jones long before any other recruiting services were.

His dad transferred out to USM, so it's not like he's really a legacy. We aren't really recruiting him and he was pretty locked in on TN at one time. He's fallen slightly down the boards of a few schools, not just State.

I’m not saying 247 has better evaluators because I’d be shocked if the evaluated our JUCO players for more that 30 seconds, but they do seem to be more up to date than anyone else’s.
Seems like Rivals and ESPN slap a ranking on a guy as a JR and never looks at it again regardless of how the player’s ability fluctuated. We’ll benefit from that with Harmon.
My sense when looking OM’s class is that there are a number of players that established themselves as 4 stars their Jr years and got worse or injured. 247 re ranked those players as 3 stars but the other sites never touched them

It’s a good class that fits Leach’s culture. The 16th ranked class is virtually the same as the 35th. Just the way evaluation works when most of the players fit in the middle range.

Auburn currently has 12 commits, and they have no coach. Should we and OM be concerned if freeze gets hired at auburn that he tries to raid us two to fill in a class? Assuming it is freeze, he might go hard on the transfer circuit this cycle though.

Playing around with the class calculator, if we finish with the 7 we're supposed to finish with (Harmon, Price, Cooper, Anderson, Perkins, Johnson, and Boone/OL with similar ranking), we'll finish with a composite score of around 218. If you apply that to the last 4 years and get an average, it'll put us around 27th. Not fantastic, but certainly acceptable with it being this staff's first year in the SEC. The knock on them was that they wouldn't be able to recruit, and so far, that's simply just not true.
However, if we want to actually start taking steps forward as a program, we need to move forward with the goal in mind of having top 25 classes year in and year out. That's not totally unrealistic. That's essentially 1-2 more 4 star players and 1-2 less low-3 star players. Looking back over the last 4 years, the 25th ranked class averaged around 226. So that number and up should be our target next year, with a strong in-state class seemingly on the way.

Then it'll be a very uncharacteristic year for the rankings. Going back for the last 10 years, the lowest ranking a recruiting score of 218 got was 30, and that happened once. So what you're saying isn't impossible, but unlikely given the trends of the last 10 years.
If we land Calvin Johnson, then he's going to get a significant bump, so that 218 number will go up a little as well.

Led the nation in comp % in 2018, and he was 10th in 2019. In an offense that dinks and dunks for the most part, comp % would seem to be a big stat. This guy could be a sneaky pick to start game 1.

Interesting. I'm all for competition.
I think Rogers is decent, but he's got to improve his arm strength & physicality to increase his playmaking ability. The offense basically has to run to perfection right now for us to move the ball because he's not fast, not physical enough to break a tackle, & doesn't have the arm strength to rip it in there.
If Sawyer were coming in at Christmas, I think there would be a real chance of him beating Roger out, but, with Sawyer coming in in July, & Leach having a disgust for starting FR QBs, I think he'll try to RS Sawyer, which makes the Abraham signing huge

How many walk on QB’s does Leach typically have?? Just off the top of my head you have the kid from Vandy, now Abraham, Stolberg, and the kid from Tupelo.
I guess you have to have that many to run the passing drills he requires, but dang that’s a lot of qb’s. Yes, I realize most will not play, but that still seems like a lot of people at that one position.

The only way they come back is if they truly just love to play the college game. There's no way their stock rises much after already 5 years in college. ET would be like that dude DT Shackleford at Ole Miss that was like an 8th year senior. And I can't see Spencer coming back to play a 6th year with his injuries.

I haven't been told anything, but just looking at these guys' situations, it really doesn't make too much sense for them to come back. If Errol came back, it'd be his 6th year in the program. There's nothing else he has left to prove. All he'd be doing is taking a year off his pro career. And really, the same could be said for Kobe and Marquiss.
The only seniors I can see coming back are the ones that have something left to prove. Guys like Fred Peters, maybe Javonta Payton, maybe Sharp.

I've really got to where I hate signing day. Its just become a mess. I actually feel bad for our coaches trying to deal with it. A lot of these upper tier guys aren't making decisions on impacts to their life going forward but by what their best instant gratification is right now. I have finally come around, due to the NCAA's lack of enforcement and due to the fact that when they do enforce its totally subjective, that it would be better if we go to no recruiting rules. Just go Wild West. At least in that scenario everyone would be playing by the same rules and if somebody is getting offered something monetarily there is no rule against matching or upping the offer. If you want a guy the most then make the highest bid. Right now schools aren't playing by the same rules because certain schools the NCAA won't touch and others they will. Its also about how clever you are with cheating and how well you can execute it. Just a totally unfair landscape at the moment. If we had done some of the things LSU and OM have done over the past decade we would be on permanent probation if not be on the death penalty. Even with all that Freeze and the Network did and got caught I bet most OM fans would tell you it was worth it with the teams they had under Freeze.

In the old taking candy from a baby adage it seems we are the baby and our top committed recruits are the candy. Like I said, I don't even enjoy signing day any more. And I figured it would be rough this year because it normally is when we have a HC not prepared for how things go with SEC recruiting. Kiffin at TN and Bama with now the OM Network behind him knows way more about the game in the SEC than Leach does.

Y'all enjoy Christmas - I'm taking a break.
Losing our best WR commit to LSU, our best Juco player to LSU, one of our best high school commits to the ****ing bears is a bit much.
This is as bad a signing day I can remember.

So we lose Nabors and Buckhalter. Only retain Knox from our 3 original four star WRs. Not the way to improve that position quickly.

And that's saying something because most of them are pretty rough. Leach and staff definitely got worked on this one though. Should have skipped out on the Auburn game and focused on recruiting like the bears did.

Sounds about right. Keep playing nice and acting above these coveted players after they've been swayed.
They are world-beaters when they are "committed". But then they become snakes all of a sudden when they dump us because the other guys worked harder. Whatever that form of work comes in is irrelevant.

MJ is a lot like Jarrion Jones was. Talented but probably 75% chance he doesn?t maximize it unless he has instant success.
Ranking the losses as far as impact it?s probably Strong, MJ, Nabers.
Strong was basically a lock to start at mlb unless he wasn?t as advertised. MJ was our only real HS corner commit. Nabers has good upside at WR but it?s an easier place to find a similar developmental talent.

i actually would have them ranked the opposite: Nabers, MJ, Strong. Leach has shown he can't do shit against SEC defenses and everyone who comes to bat from him says he needs his players. Arnett has shown he can hang with the big boys with significantly less talent, and think a 4 star CB who will be here 5 years is more important than a MLB who will be here 2

My final say on today's action is this. It really does stink to lose Strong and Nabers. Really good players I think. With Daniels, there is no way around that he is a very big loss. You can try to make it sound better but you cant. In the same breath, though, I really do have doubts about his future just because of how he handled all this. Even a guy like Chris Jones, who was a great player, didn't really realize his full potential at State. Look at other guys in the past who have done similar things: Kailo Moore, Nick Brassell, Armani Linton... I can't think of one that really panned out well. Time will tell.

I've been fairly on top of recruiting season. I'm not expert and don't pretend or care to be. I've kept up with it for sure though.
But, do you realize how much orchestration that would take to pull all of what you are implying would take?
Are you saying MJ alone orchestrated getting Buckhaulter & Pounders to leave MSU for OM, just so MJ could be the only MSU commit to flip on signing day? That way he got all of the hype and attention.
-or-
Are you saying OM got MJ to get them to flip or be dropped by MSU, just so OM could flip buckhaulter & pounders in order to take 2 commits from MSU while knowing they had MJ in their back pocket the whole time? So they'd plant MJ to screw us out of two players and then drop one of those to just to screw us.
Either option is very very elaborate and sounds crazy.
Sour grapes doesn't even begin to touch what you are saying.
Either of the two scenarios I've listed above is beyond delusional and giving OM entirely too much credit right????
