We'll know after this weekend what the deal is. He OV to LSU. I like him if you realize what he is. Everybody wanted him to be an instant impact day 1 guy. He's not that. He needs a RS year to get his body in great shape & learn pass protection. He's been over ranked. He's a low 4* not a top 50 or 100 player like he's been ranked. He can be a really good player in 2yrs IMO.

I've been away from the board most of the day, but have been marinating on something I'd like to run it by you guys. I thought about posting it in a new thread, but decided that any poster that really mattered would probably read it here anyway.

Hopefully this some encouragement & confidence to our recruiting.

Follow me here:

- The last few days we've heard rumors about everything. Rosebowl said this, Paul said that. My uncle's accountant said this, Yancy said that. Ole Miss fans said this, my barber said that. We've had posters predict that we get everyone on our board to posters predicting we only get on guy. So basically, I am making the assumption that overall nobody, except Dan Mullen, his staff, & the players know anything.

- I've always been someone that believes actions speak infinitely louder than words, & that looking at our staff's actions is potentially a better way to determine what's going than anything else.

- Here are my interpretations of Dan Mullen & his staff's actions.
- We currently only have 13 commits
- We are going to sign 22-23 players. So we need about 10 more players.

Where are all the offers? It seems as if there is no panic by our staff. Why hasn't Mason or others been offered?

My point is that, the actions of the coaches have me believing that they feel pretty good about our top targets.

We must feel decent about our chances with some of these new OL prospects because we could've landed Genrle Williams had we wanted to correct? Instead we aren't pushing for him and appear to be ok with him going to Cal.

A nice rational statement. These have been few and far between lately. Not getting caught up in the minute by minute panic threads seem to have done you some good. Well done and well said. I too have thought all along that our staff must feel pretty confident about our remaining targets, otherwise we would be seeing a whole new batch of plan b or plan c guys lining up visits.

Probably won't know until tonight.

He could come unofficially tonight, and then leave for Bama, but Im not sure Saban will deal with that. When you are recruiting at Bama's level you don't have to put up with the guys cancelling at the last minute.

My gut says he goes to Bama this weekend, but that we get him in for an official visit before signing day. Not sure when, could be mid week, or could be next weekend.

Still not the least bit worried with AJ or Kobe despite all efforts by the bears that are trolling the board.

When Muschamp was hired Stallings immediately said he didn't think he fit his defense. Muschamp has said he'd honor his commitment but he did agree that he doesn't fit his defense.

FYI, had lunch with an old friend today that follows recruiting closer than me, and has way better contacts than me, and he thinks we will take at least 10 more commitments.

We only have 13 commits right now, and 4 are early enrollees, so one or more may count back to the previous year. He thinks there is no way we don't take and sign at least 10 more players. I was thinking 8-9, but he is telling me at least 10 more.

Considering we can count some of the guys that enrolled early to last year's class, that makes sense. Anyway, just wanted to pass this info along, and what it tells me is that this is going to be an exciting next 18 days. Lets hope the board can keep it together over the next few weeks, there will be ups and downs, but I think we close strong.

Its all about WHO we sign. We won't have trouble finding 10 or 11 more HS football recruits that want to play in the SEC. Finding that many that can actually be solid contributors or more in the SEC may be an issue.

Every player and situation is different. Some typically commit when they talk to the head coach before leaving. Some players wait to speak with their parents if they're not there or want more time to think about it.

seems to be having a damn good time. shooting hoops with Saban. today he tweeted a pic in a bama uni. Gotta admit, it would be really hard to turn that down and it's only an hour and half from home. Bama's facilities are 2nd to none.

I think the first thing everyone needs to understand about AJ's visits is that AJ is a big personality that plays a glamour position.

He's going to live it up on every visit. He is going to juice ever last once out of this recruiting process, even at schools he has no interest in attending.

On signing day though, I think he's a dawg.

That's for the public. Most of these kids talk and have a better grasp of where others stand with each school. That momentum is for the fans. Not the players.

Kobe & Lashley particularly have held off on committing to MSU for a year so that they could go on visits & be recruited. They didn't do all that to cave in right when they can go on visits.

I don't know if AJ has ever been as close as Kobe & Lashley to committing, but you could say the same for him. As much as he's talked about leaving Starkville, even if he signs with MSU, you can't bet he's going to travel, take visits, & milk every last drop out of this recruiting process.

No, it doesn't. The whole point of my "complaining" earlier was that if we could get our locks to go ahead and declare that it could help with those we aren't as much of a lock. Whether my idea is true or not is certainly debatable.

Definitely trying to get commits in the boat. Even though we give a lot of focus to guys that flip, the majority of recruits do in fact honor their original commitment. Very, very few fans were "freaking out" about losing any commits last year, even Peters.

Strength will come with weights and they're aren't many 6'5 explosive guys in the world. They generally are faster not quicker. However, they look slow because of their length.

Unless his buddy is a scout and / or coach.... Im calling bullshit. Central dominated in the playoffs until they lost to the champs in the semis. They're also a running team. To say Couch was underwhelming, even though the guy pancake blocked every DB he faced, is ignorant to say the least.

Couch is the guy who reminds me of Bear. Very raw but talented. He was pretty much a 6'5" RB this year. He had more carries than catches.

That is great news, that is 7 coaches who could have been somewhere recruiting a player that they had a 1% chance of landing. Instead they were recruiting Kobe Jones.

You are correct. I was thinking about recruiting in general and not off campus. What determines being an on the field coach and how many are allowed?

I believe the rules say that the Head Coach and 9 other staff can recruit off campus. Since there are 9 on field assistants, most schools have them be the off campus recruiters, but that is not the rule. I know Alabama has one non coach who recruits off campus and UNM obviously does as well. It is often used during coaching vacancies, also.

His wife passed away a few years back & he has 2 younger kids so when he was hired Freeze agreed that he didn't have to travel for recruiting.

Fans need to realize that players say stuff like this every year, it does not carry much weight. Sure, they would like to play together, but kids rarely make decisions on what school to attend, based on what another recruit is going to do.
