No, if he plays one snap he loses his redshirt. The only exception would be if he sustains an early injury where later he could apply for a medical RS. But Thompson is our backup QB by default at this point so very little chance he will be redshirting.
They voted to pass the new rule recently. Kids can now play in up to 4 games and still RS
