2016 MSU Football Recruiting Thread

I'm sorry, I don't see any MSU fans bashing each other in this thread. Could some of this discussion wait until after Wednesday? Yes. But right now MSU fans are all pretty much in the same boat trying to understand, after all the on-field success and facility upgrades of the past few years, why we are we not able to recruit at a higher level? Especially with the top guys in our home state. Its a more than valid concern right now and has nothing to do with anyone attacking someone. And this has been the worst recruiting cycle for our fans (and for MSU) because it doesn't appears its going to meet reasonable expectations.

It literally could not have set up better for us....

We were #1 in the Nation last year.
We lost our top WR after the season. A guy that is going pro early.
We lost BOTH CB's. Both will be NFL picks.
We lost our best DT. A guy that is going pro early.

We have a bad ass WR in Starkville that can step right into DeRunnya's spot.
We have a bad ass CB in MS whose sis is at MSU, & can compete for a CB spot right away.
We have a bad ass DT 20 miles from campus that can play day 1.

Result.....we get none of them?

If that happens, we can try to paint as rosey a picture as possible, but that's ****ing awful and embarrassing, and someone didn't do their job. I don't give a rats ass if a player wanted to leave the State. Has a salesperson ever sold you something you didn't exactly need? You can't just mail someone a brochure & expect that to seal the deal. You gotta work, just like you tell the players they'll have to do.

(I'm using the brochure thing as an example, not saying we actually do that. Since I know somebody will take that literally.)

How much should #1 in the nation at midseason compare to being blown out by our recruiting competitors (OM and Bama) the last two years?

Seems our fans are overrating the importance of the former, and under rating the latter.

Exactly. ED recruiting, I like you, but you have been acting like we are in great shape to close strong even as recently as a few days ago. I hope like hell you actually have reason to say those things, and aren't just trying to keep everyone optimistic. Because at the end of the day, people want the truth good or bad....we can go to Genespage if we want optimism blown up our butt.

That being said, I don't see anybody attacking MSU fans...just MSU fans starting to get uneasy as bad news and late offers start rolling in on NSD eve eve. That's logical behavior. The reason you don't see OM fans being negative is bc they are cleaning house in recruiting all while having the NCAA breathing down their necks. What reason would they have to be negative at this point?

I hope like hell youre right about all the "relax" talk concerning AJ, Simmons, etc the last few days & weeks. Otherwise, it's going to be a long off season I'm afraid.

If that was the only thing I listed, it wouldn't hold much weight. But if you factor in the other dozen things we had in our corner, it should hold some weight but we SHOULD have been good regardless.

It also seems some of our fans are looking for excuses to why we lost guys we had no business losing. Hell someone mentioned Championships being a factor earlier....did I miss an Ole Miss Championship somewhere in the last hundred years?

They said Ole Miss has 5 elite recruiters that never stop. They thought Hev was a hindrance and we would be better of He he just stayed Home. People on this board told me I didn't know what I was talking about. I said two months back that Simmons was leaning to the Rebs. a certain poster told Me that His mother loved State and we we Ok with Simmons. Still hope i am wrong. Thank goodness Dan has gone out and got some recruiters but He still doesn't have a Mississippi Coach that can Recruit on the Ole Miss level. Hell their best recruiter might Be Barney Farrah. Dan is just a hard-headed yankee

What's crazy to me about this class is that we were able to get a guy from USP, but couldn't get the guy in our own backyard.
