Weird you said we don't develop players while taking about Murphy. We absolutely developed him from just raw, raw talent. I hope we get another offseason to polish him up more.

2 main priorities should be a PG, over 6ft, and a big bodied center or PF. Plus get a clutch shooter because Hubb isn't it or is afraid to "be Kobe:".
-
Let's just go do what Drake did and go get 4 or 5 DII players. Seems to be working for them. At least they got past the first round.

Throw the bank at Augustas Marciulionis from Saint Mary's. Guy is a Shane Power clone. Yeah, yeah I know, we dont' have a chance but that guy is damn good, just like his Dad.

Problem is we don't have Drake coaching.

Jans is the greatest, just ask our fans. You know, we've been to 3 straight NCAA tournaments. You obviously didn't get the memo.

Jans is a damn good coach. We're lucky to have him. Remember when you used to cry about Mullen too? So much better off, eh?

Hubbard took 503 shots during the season, 208 more than the next player, Murphy, (Hail State Individual Stats). What good offensive player, especially a guard wants to play in that offense? Next year will be the same if the offense is centered around him again. A balanced offense must be achieved. He can't help being 5' 10" or so, but is also a liability on defense as his man is most always taller than him, but constantly blowing by him is the real concern.

Murphy definitely got developed from last year

Possible Targets:
Dedan Thomas-UNLV-PG
Josh Dix-Iowa-SG
Gabe Cupps-PG-Indiana
Adam Njie-PG-Iona
Bryce Hopkins-PF-Providence
Lawson Lovering-C-Utah
Nick Davidson-C-Nevada
Departures:
Cam Matthews
Claudell Harris
RJ Melendez
Possible Departures:
Riley Kugel
Keshawn Murphy
Del'Quan Warren
Kanye Clary
Jeremy Foumena
Adrian Myers
Looking at Iowa?s roster, they have a Seydou Traore.
So let me get this straight. Traore plays basketball for Iowa and plays football for Mississippi State? Cool

It was widely known but Rosebowl did officially that Clary is expected to enter the portal on Monday. We have to start knowing what we are getting and being up front with these kids. We cannot afford to get another Clary or another Andrew Taylor type player. That's two years in a row we've struck on something we needed and the kid wasn't even in the program by SEC play.
On the PG front. I would look for us to be major players with Themus Fulks and Wes Enis. Enis is a D2 kid and I know we're already in talks with him about setting up a visit. Fulks is a guy we're in contact with but I don't know to the extent. He's the type of player we need. He's not going to be a scoring PG, but he's 20th in the country in assists and his assist to TO ratio is 2:1.
I've also added a few names to the list of guys I expect will jump into the portal in the next week or so.

We played most of the year with no point guard. You can’t win without a good point guard. We had Cam and Kugel trying to be a point guard.

Yea and that's an issue and you can tell we tried to remedy that with Clary. Just didn't work out. And a lot of people will just say teach Josh how to be a PG, but I think that changes the way he plays and I worry that would affect his entire game. I think it did in the first part of conference when he was struggling. It was almost paralysis by analysis. He just started playing like Josh again in the Bama game.

Josh is not a point guard. It's a totally different position than shooting guard. It hurt Josh's game overall.
Btw he is our MVP, regardless of his defense.
-
Hubbard should just transfer to Kentucky.
He?d make a fortune and our fans would be happier.
We could get a solid defender.
Who needs a great scorer when we can get a taller guy who scores 6 a game but defends well.

Jans is a good coach; Howland was a good coach. And I'm glad both came to MSU; we can and have done worse. But like Mullen after many years, we saw the potential to take next steps but Mullen just couldn't/wouldn't do it.
Jans is still early; he at least compromised on his D first and made an attempt to find balance.
Maybe Jans can adapt and show us he is great but so far he is just a good coach.

In today's basketball, you need a big guy underneath that can defend without a lot of help and a at least 3 guys that are knock down 3 point shooters in your lineup most of the time. Trying to double team in the post leading to wide open 3 pointers by the opposition won't work in today's game unless you have some incredible close out defenders which are very rare. We have got to rethink who we go after in the portal and our approach to defense.
