He was our Ben Howland after Rick Ray hire, a mature coach with a long track record of results that cleaned up the program and brought stability and some name recognition to the program. He was never going to win us a natty but I think 7-9 win seasons with Leach would have been the average which I'd be ok with. Arnett was a train wreck from the beginning unfortunately.
I'm excited about Lebby, but it doesn't take much to get me excited about any new coach (sans Rick Ray). At the end of the day it seems like most coaching hires are 50/50 of who lives up/exceeds expectations and who falls flat.
I gave Joe a year. I thought he needed to get his ass and ego whooped in the SEC to make him change some of his coaching philosophy. He brought a guy in at QB that knew his system and we still couldn't score. I was fuming after the K State loss in year two. K State pushed us around on a hot day in September like we were a bad JUCO team. What Leach did here is nothing short of miraculous. He took chicken shit and made chicken salad. But his recruiting holes would have eventually caused major problems for us down the line. And I'm not even going to talk about Arnett. His name needs to be erased from the annals of Mississippi State football like some Egyptian pharaohs were erased from historical records.
