Lebby ain't playing around
He has had the best 10 day stretch of recruiting that I have ever seen at state.
-
Wonder if he can mentor other on campus coaches?
-
The Johnson commit from TN can flat out motor.

And we were dead last and outside the top 50 coming into that 10 day stretch. What a grind. I actually like Lebby.

He is selling them on blue collar, 1990s football ***
That cracks me up still, how we had so many trying to sell that.
Imagine in the 90's (1990's) and hearing our fan base say we need to get back to 1965 MSU football.

Lebby is going to transform this football program. Honestly, someone like Lebby is who we should gone after when Mullen left. We just spent the last seven years dicking around. Jomo could croot but couldn't coach. Leach could coach but couldn't croot. And Arnett couldn't do either. If Lebby coaches like he croots, watch tf out.

I'll admit that I thought Shitshow Joe was that guy. It didn't take but until the game at Kentucky to convince myself that I was badly mistaken. Looking back, it's obvious that Joe caught lightning in a bottle with a Heisman Trophy winner along with a very good QB. At least Lebby has a longer track record and has produced impressive results at 3 different schools. I haven't been this excited for the season to start since Mullen's first year.

In fairness, JoMo talked a great game, and had some results at PSU to get excited about. Turns out he's just not a head guy or at least wasn't ready to be when we brought him on. I think Leach was a great hire after JoMo. He was our Ben Howland after Rick Ray hire, a mature coach with a long track record of results that cleaned up the program and brought stability and some name recognition to the program. He was never going to win us a natty but I think 7-9 win seasons with Leach would have been the average which I'd be ok with. Arnett was a train wreck from the beginning unfortunately.
I'm excited about Lebby, but it doesn't take much to get me excited about any new coach (sans Rick Ray). At the end of the day it seems like most coaching hires are 50/50 of who lives up/exceeds expectations and who falls flat.

I gave Joe a year. I thought he needed to get his ass and ego whooped in the SEC to make him change some of his coaching philosophy. He brought a guy in at QB that knew his system and we still couldn't score. I was fuming after the K State loss in year two. K State pushed us around on a hot day in September like we were a bad JUCO team. What Leach did here is nothing short of miraculous. He took chicken shit and made chicken salad. But his recruiting holes would have eventually caused major problems for us down the line. And I'm not even going to talk about Arnett. His name needs to be erased from the annals of Mississippi State football like some Egyptian pharaohs were erased from historical records.

I was not super excited about Joe. And the UK game convinced me that he was almost certainly a bad head coach. Tried to talk myself into reasons that maybe he wasn't as bad as he looked, and he was just struggling to adjust to being head coach, but obviously he was terrible.
I did expect Arnett to be much better than he was. I thought it was a terrible decision to change offensive philosophy when we were built for the air raid with a lot of upper classmen, but I really never thought he'd let the defense be bad like that.

We had a strong recruiting weekend for sure.

This. Tried to make myself feel good about Joe, but it was just a bad hire. Pretty much knew it after Kentucky and Florida. Iowa confirmed it, and Kansas State confirmed it.

The reality is we have never really focused on football recruiting since Jackie left and we were on probation in 2003.
We started the blue collar diamond in the rough stuff with Croom really.
Dan just didn't like recruiting and he wasn't good at it. It seemed like his ego was getting in the way all of the time to me more than anything and he wasn't willing to hold some of his assistants accountable for poor recruiting. It was like he wanted everyone to go to Big Elite Dawg Camp or whatever we called it and commit on the spot and not take any more visits or we're going to recruit someone else. You can't do that with high school football recruit especially if they have options.
Joe was better than Dan at recruiting but to me he was really average more than anything. He left Leach with some decent talent honestly. He also had some pretty big misses.
Leach was Leach. He was never going to be a big time recruiter but like Dan he overcame it with his coaching and play calling. IMO he was a much better recruiter than Dan. He knew what he was looking for and you knew he was going to put them in a position to succeed.
Arnett was a disaster and we're still paying for his lying. That will end after we play Eastern Kentucky and put up about 60 points on them.

Just keep our starting QB from injury .

His interview with Rece on College Gameday was pretty good.
