In baseball and the Portal era you can't afford to take a guy who will suck fr 2 years to get 11hrs and .270 hitting in year 3. You can spare 1 year of development, but then they need to produce. Just not enough bench spots and roster turnover is too fast for 2 years to grow. Plus when you can Portal in a replacement you're probably better off taking high ceiling projects vs a .270 DH project. If the high ceiling project doens't work out, they can Portal away and we can Portal in a Yeager
