This game was lost defensively. 2 ground balls(Hancock, Forsyth), 2 fly balls(James, cumbest) and a ball Logan Tanner boxed. We shouldn't have given up more than 3 runs in this game. Uga made every play on defense and we made zero.

I said we probably needed 4, but with the results of the 9th we might have needed 8.

This is absolutely correct. Make routine plays in the field and we win handily.

Maybe so, buy there's like 1% of hitters I trust in college there, and Hancock is not one of them. It's hard to patient in situations like that bc everyone wants to be a hero

Yes. Defense and 12 Walks. Cumbest didn't get charged with an error b/c he didn't touch the fly ball but that was 3 unearned runs + the additional 3 unearned runs on Forsythe and Hancock. That's 6 unearned runs + 12 walks. I can't remember if the James miss cost us runs. And you're right that LT miss in the B9 changed that inning.

Yeah, I’m just not feeling the splash with this but we’ll see. And we don’t seem to have folks lining up for the job.

I knew losing Sims and Simmons would hurt...but there is no excuse for what we have looked like. We should be deep enough to absorb a couple of losses to injury, so while I expected losing Sims to cause us several losses...it is not a good enough excuse to be this bad. We won the damn Title last year for crying out loud. This is pitiful

Yeah they scored their first run after James missed that pop up. Cumbest didn't get charged with an error but in my book it is, that has to be caught by an sec outfielder. The thing is none of those plays were difficult(including the Tanner miss). They were all big cause they cost us runs but Forsyths really killed us. Combine errors with walks and recipe for disaster. Don't remember a time we played this poorly defensively, smh.

I'll admit I have changed my expectations. I just want to make a regional and then see what happens.

Losing the pitching was bigger than just losing top pitching. When all the pitching moved up, the back end of the bullpen became SEC weekend guys. The back end of bull pen is really bad, no where near SEC quality. Just good enough to compete midweek and now they are thrust into SEC win games roles.
Agree poor fielding really hurt this game but 12 walks is not a game many teams win.

To be honest I would take traveling as a 4 seed to a regional right now because we ain't making a regional without a miracle.

We aren't making a regional. We will be lucky get in the SEC tourney. Yes, we are that bad and the talent is not there to overcome it.

Pressure is on to NOT get swept. I think there was a reason for Cade pitching Sunday. Now we will see if it worked.
Gotta get Hunt well, he along with Sims and Cade were the top 3 in fall and pre spring practice. I'm betting after this weekend we will see some changes in pitching rotation.
I think like many we are hitting better, but back end pitching is not looking good.

At least we won't be hearing all the rhetoric about how useless the SEC tournament is now. Assuming we make Hoover.

The silver lining there is defense can be improved. I don't know what's up with the dropped fly balls? That's like three in six games I think?

We know Cade is going to go out there, battle, and throw strikes. That is all I can ask of a starter.

Not sure what we can change there. Stinnett is limited to being a starter. So that creates a lack of flexibility. I kind of doubt Hunt is ready to jump back into the rotation at this point. My guess is we see him against Southern. Cade obviously has to stay in the rotation. So the only thing left to do is move Preston back to the pen but even then we would have to wait on Hunt to be ready.

it 100% is useless if you're already in. It's useful for teams trying to play their way in though. Since we are MSU baseball we never have to talk about it from that perspective, but here we are...
