There is absolutely no doubt that the high school coaches love Moorhead compared to Mullen. I have heard multiple stories of Moorhead going to schools that have zero D1 players but going instead just introduce himself and get start a relationship with that coach. He has meaningful conversations with them and doesn’t come across as a pompous ass. He gets it, for sure.

Sorry to beat the dead horse but I think our class last year would have been different without the coaching turnover. Plus it was his first full year. It would be pretty rare for things to go perfectly for most anybody. I think we will do a lot better this year and to me it looks like our WR and OL recruiting have already picked up.

Was told if Baker stays we for sure land Young, and if Hughes had been on staff longer we would have landed Mingo
A few here told everyone this staff would recruit better, its more in their DNA than CDM and his boys.
CJM already is head and shoulders ahead of where Dan was at any point with in state coaches
We need the boosters all on the same page
This staff will get better talent here, just a matter of can we turn that into more W’s.

Unbelievably frustrating.

It was an all night decision for Mingo anyway we were close, not sure what else we could have done. OM had the right person in their corner, and they did what they do. He is gonna be special

We had a chance with Byron but his parents LOVED Saban. He wavered some but Saban factor was to much(getting baker didn't hurt) but he was going to bama. Straight from horses mouth.

It will be interesting to see how the 2020 class shakes out. I do see changes to the recruiting approach this year but at the end of the day Joe will graded on who he can ink. At this point I don't see us finishing much better than 25th overall.

I doubt it unless he gets a Qb.

He won't be too special if the QB is laying on his back and can't get the ball to him.

Yep, I don't think we would have gotten either. We couldn't get Young to commit or flip to us when Baker was with us but because he left we didn't get him? Sorry, I don't buy it. And Mingo actually gave us much more consideration AFTER Michael Johnson came on staff. Mr. Green Bay did a pathetic job recruiting him but even after the switch he was just too in bed with the Confederates. Guess we will never know for sure, but I don't think we were as close on these two as we would like to make ourselves believe. Now I do think the staff we have now is a MUCH better overall recruiting staff than what we had last year. Two of the guys that left were in the NFL and had no clue what was required to recruit in the SEC and the other, Baker, is an excellent coach but probably a below average recruiter. Even swapping out Hud for Hughes was a good trade though Hud was definitely the best recruiter of what we lost.

We will be lucky to squeeze out a top 30 class this time. Not being negative, but what's available to us is very limited in numbers, and that seems to be a trend. I do expect our class to be underrated, which is almost always the case.

We’ll see. Not capitalizing with so many instate players last year, was a HUGE red flag for me. We’ll see if it gets better. It seems like there is more effort than the previous staff put forth but if they can’t close, it’s irrelevant

Really want to see what Hughes has going this year. Hopefully he will stay here and try to build with Shoop and Moorhead.

Yup.....we have such a small recruiting footprint with the vast majority of it being sparsely populated. I also believe that several of our current commits are grossly underrated.....maybe that will change over the next 8 months.

Commerce knew more about Young's situation than anybody else on this board did. So I'm buying it.

Why are we taking up multiple pages on the 2020 recruiting page with arguing about the 2019 recruiting class?

Because pretty much on this thread, posters can post just about anything they want to, melt, etc. That is why the 2020 MSU FOOTBALL RECRUIT UPDATE was initiated and is a closed thread. So you can actually see recruiting updates and what is relevant to our actual 2020 recruiting, without the off topic, attention seeking, melt down. etc. stuff that ruined the original recruiting thread.

CC said his son was friends with B. Young, how much closer to the situation can you get? CC brought us the best info on JT Ginn and said JT's dad was a friend of his. CC is also careful about how he lays information out on this board, often using a disclaimer about stuff he's not sure about. If CC says it I lay bank on it!
