Rumor is OM. We need a real good season, at least 8-4 in my opinion, to finish strong in recruiting. There are so many highly ranked MS HS players that are committed OOS and it will be even more difficult to flip any (NIL-$$$$) if we have a mediocre (6-6 poor or 7-5 which probably means 3-5 in SEC) season. Next year will also be a very big rebuild.

I think we have done really well in the high school class considering how much money is being thrown around in the state. The numbers i'm hearing for the Picayune kids is just shocking.

Our roster is as senior heavy as I have seen considering the new world of college football. We have to hit the portal extremely hard next offseason, but I think the fact that we will have a very good season will help with that.

I don't think LSU is involved. In the NIL era, i don't count anyone out or in the bag until the papers are signed. Even then, he may only be here a year.

I think we have a good shot at Oatis and Vaughn for the class of 2025. With Hibbler and Carter in the 2024 class and Bryant, Moore, Head, and Davis in the 2023 class we're fine as long as we don't whiff on the 2025 class.

Just bear in mind that only about 40-50 percent of 2025 class has even been evaluated. And that number is probably high.

Yeah, I think the reason that you've seen the slow down in hs commits since then is that there's only a handful of hs spots left, and the the staff is being very picky. I could see 7-10ish guys come out of the portal this year because of what all we're losing

Sounds like we wanted White at CB (Stonka and Harrell are better WRs), and he wanted to play WR, which om told him that he could do...not saying that we didn't want the kid, but his insistence on playing receiver put him down the board a little for us

I think it will depend what big 10 team. If it's OSU, Michigan or PSU I'll be pumped. If it's Indiana, Illinois or Purdue, I'm not sure I'll get that pumped.

The way I took it is we are still developing our NIL and felt like it was best to lock up our guys with what we had now based on where we were at the time.

I think as things grow with our NIL collective we'll start to use it more and more on recruits.

I'm sure Charlie meets with the coaches and gets input on how they want to spend the money. Losing so many seniors I suspect we'll focus a lot on the portal this offseason.

Very nice to get a true TE (rated higher than the bama TE that decommitted from us to bama. Now, who's next? Hail State!

The problem for us is the portal is so damn expensive. FSU and LSU went heavy in the portal with differing success. Arkansas spent a bunch in the portal and it ain't helping them at all. Same with AU.

You can get a few guys to plug holes, but you can't recruit a decent team out of the portal.

We all knew that next year was going to be a growing pains year, i just had figured/hoped (and still do) that we would be coming off a big year this year.

I?m of the the opinion it?s time for coach Hughes to go off field and get Jason on field to coach safeties. Jason has been key for us getting several of our better portal guys.

We don?t need to keep going after the Chris Keys, Ray Jones (wth happened with him??), Goode, Colorado kid types..even Rogers isn?t getting talked about-the talk is over Pollock, Evans, and Jones the freshmen class at CB.

I compare this to the NFL if they did away with salary caps and the draft. It will end up destroying all but about 2 dozen programs. Actually probably about 10-15 max

We were willing to pay the damn price for a stud baseball player. We should be for football too. No, we can't afford a bunch, but when you've got a major need (we've got a bunch), you better fix something.

We have one HS DL and one HS Edge in this class and can't even run 3 down linemen this season due to injuries and total lack of depth. Many recruiting fails on D past couple of years. Now we are expecting this staff to clean up in areas of need in the Portal? The lack of production or even seeing the field by this year's portal players shows a lack of evaluation skill by this staff. We have been stuck on 16 commits for some time ranked #34 nationally. A potential flip and uncommitted player, both from MS wouldn't even visit for the bama game. We are in big trouble if we don't get at least four more wins and I don't see it.

I heard all Spring about how much speed we had in the secondary. If so, they must be taking very bad angles when trying to cover or tackle. I know 3-3-5 is designed for front three to jam up OL & our LB's to make the tackles, but most are in pursuit 6 to 8 yards down the field. Only ST are well coached and performing at a SEC level. Better be careful who we try to retain with NIL funds (covid players).

I'm not sure about the dual threat QB thing with this offense. We have one on the bench and it doesn't seem like Barbay knows how to use him.

The impact portal guys are simply very expensive and we have needs everywhere on the field.

I would rather spend money on the HS class and take our lumps next year, but that doesn't seem like what we are doing.

It's hard to say really because the hire really will determine everything. There's guys that may not want to play in a certain scheme or for a certain coach, but a new coach may come in and not want certain recruits.

According to Genespage, offensive tackle Alex Lopez,a 6'7 250 pound OT, ranked .85 number 39 in Mississippi, from Bayou Academy, Cleveland, MS has committed to us. Is this a PWO, BTW, does this disaster of a staff even need to take anymore commits unless they are a 4 star or high 3s. New staff is going to have enough issues with recruiting as it is. He is not listed in our 16 commits for 2024.

Our average rating per player is .87+ for only 16 commits however, I started with our lowest rated commits and worked upward. The offer sheets of at least half of these 16 are very concerning. I have had no confidence in this staff since the opening game this year so why should we have any confidence in their evaluation and recruiting? JUCO is also nowhere close to the talent pool it used to be before NIL/portal. Our only hope for this year's class is a HC hire that gets attention and a second look from a few SEC type talents in a short period of time before the December signing date. We may be better off to not let this staff take anymore of these types of commits and save slots for the portal. JMO.

I know some talked about adding Cam Ward, just know that the price for him is seven figures. I would hate to have to be the one who decides where the money gets allocated. Having 7-8 million dollars in an NIL war chest is great, but you have to remember that this has to be replenished every year, and spending 10-15% of one kid that may only be here a year is a tough strategy, especially for a team with so many holes on the roster.

Probably a little bit of both. He has an official visit to Ga Tech this weekend. My guess is that the coaching staff is going to be focused on the portal the next few weeks more so than HS recruiting.

We don't have a choice, we have to get kids that can play next year in here.

Daniels- I'm not sure. It may be too late. If anyone has a chance it's us. I can't imagine wanting to play somewhere unstable like Florida if I were in his shoes but people don't always make great decisions when it comes to football recruiting. Would definitely follow him and hope to get him back in the portal.

Echols- that would be impressive but I feel the least confident about him because his sister goes to Ole Miss. Hope we can pull it off though.

I wonder if we will go after Reed Jesilowski at Hartfield Academy? He is a USM commit and we need some TE/H-Back types for this scheme and he seems like a fit. Has some MSU family as well apparently.

Tells me all I need to know about Barbay's inability to evaluate QB play. Mike Leach evaluated both, and he determined that not only was Trey Petty to the guy to go after, but that Flowers wasn't a QB at the next level. Now, Jeff Lebby has come in and has two better QB prospects coming in to visit this weekend.

I thought we had a damn good shot at him. The Van Buren kids seems good. Candidly, I wanted the Oak Grove kid because it would give you a leg up on landing his brother that is a top 5 player in the state next year on the DL.
