It might come down to a face-saving resignation for Freeze -- resign so he doesn't have to get fired, and he might not even get the show cause. He could say it was just to get the whole thing over for his beloved university, while admitting no guilt. Perhaps he might just informally agree to not go elsewhere for X number of years. I have no idea if the NCAA would be that benevolent.
I don't think the NCAA would go for that. They need show causes advertised to discourage future cheating.
