I'm sure they are begging him to publicly help them commit. If you're gonna play the mole, you can't be obvious about it. If you really want to hurt them you play the part until later down the road. It makes the decommit and flip THAT much more dramatic...and for the record, I can't stand crap like this. I wish he'd just decommit and commit to us.
