most schools recruit regionally- Tenn, Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia arent bastions of academic excellence.

No doubt. And the SEC network proves it.

Point was with the talent Vandy had coming back and with Stallings this team should have competed with AM and UK for the SEC and should have never been in a situation to be one of the last 4 in..
It comes back to coaching and team chemistry. I think you are give Stallings too much credit..

Yes and that could be the reason the SEC struggles in basketball. Good football programs up north recruit the south hard for football. Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame for example. Maybe it's time the SEC reverses that for basketball. Recruit the Midwest and north hard for basketball and only sign 4* and 5* players from the south. A 3* from Indiana is most likely going to have a higher basketball IQ than a 3* from Mississippi. The SEC goes after athletes from the south cause there's a plethora of them available. Once everyone starts going for the high basketball IQ guys over the raw athletes you'll start seeing a better brand of basketball played in the SEC.

If anyone doesn't think Stallings is a very good coach.. Then you don't know basketball very well..
I'm not saying he is top 10 in the country, but there are a lot of basketball programs that would really want what he has done at Vandy past 17 years...
Did more than what a certain coach did here...
Remember he had to play UK , Fla, 2 times every year the past 17... The east in basketball back then is like the west in football today ..
Reason being only one coach voted not to break up the divisions...

You should have called into 104.5. I'm riding through Nashville today. They were brutal... Brutal! In regards to the job Stallings has done and Vandy. They were pretty hard on the players -. In so many words calling them p.........
It is just our society today. Everyone wants to fire the coach.

Too much money and notoriety in play now to be patient with coaches and programs

What amazes me is that you guys can remember those plays that Stans screwed up on, but can't remember any that he did good on.
Is he the only coach that called a a zone and got shot out of it? Come on!
But what do I know, I would have been kicked out of the bracket before the tourney actually started..Which was the purpose of this thread.

Again, it wasn't Stansbury's lack of floor coaching that got him fired it was him missing on over THIRTY players in less than ten years. That's how many guys transferred, quit or got kicked off the team. OVER THIRTY!! Stop with the butthurt over his firing. He did it to himself and he REALLY did it to himself when he refused to fire his assistants and he himself CHOSE to resign instead.
Wish I could just auto reply this till it finally soaks in for some of y'all

I got over the Retiring. I just like to give the man some credit where credit is due.
Nit picking is nit picking, the man was our all time winning coach, don't you think some credit is due for that?
Hate is not a good thing.

Stansbury was excellent at getting Roberts, Power and Moultrie to transfer in. Those were three very good players he added through transfers. There's some credit.
