If the town had anything to do with it, OM, Bama, and TAMU, to name a few, would be recruiting at a much lower level.

Great question. I have been asking this.
Howland has actually embraced that the small town atmosphere is great and pimps it in his, Korey's and George's sales pitch.

Rosebowl saying AJ has us 3rd, Simmons nobody knows, Knott to Bama or State, Lashley & Jones to State.
Looking like Jones & Lashley are a real possibility of being our only 2 of the big 5.
Getting Simmons and/or Knott would be big.

Yea, I'm really hoping Steve is just angry that AJ won't talk to him at this point. His lack of knowledge on anything regarding AJ, Simmons, & Knott makes me wonder if he is in the loop at all this year. Every time I ask my buddy for Steve's updates, It seems like Steve is saying the same things...that he doesn't know shit. Hopefully that's a good sign considering the few things he IS saying, ha

The bill is due Wednesday. That's when we will know. Definite statements like this was like calling a game in the first quarter this year. Didn't always end up like we thought. I think it is an unusual boom or bust year for us. Hasn't happened under Mullen like this. With bringing in 1 guy this weekend, Hankerson, the coaches felt very strongly on where they stood. Let's see if they were right in the end or being played.

Steve has no ins with the staff because he cant keep his damn mouth shut and has to break the story before 24/7. That's why he gets zero info and is left out in the cold. Sucks for him but it's the price to pay for wanting to be a big shot when a kid or the staff told you to hold something.

Hopefully we're already recruiting Kylin Hill, Willie Gay, & CJ Avery pretty hard. They're on Twitter saying they are going to play college ball together.
(Not that it matters if we're already on them...apparently it only takes a day or two for our opponents to wipe out a full year of recruiting & having guys on campus watching practice.) Joking...sort of

I definitely hope that's the case this year. We need at least 1 or 2 of Simmons, Brown, Knott.

Does anyone know but AJ? He's had one of the strangest recruitments I've ever seen. He will probably surprise everyone and go to cal. Be sure good for him to stay in Starkville!

Lack of "hotspots" in and around Starkville is a factor in recruiting for some prospects but I personally don't believe its anywhere near our biggest problem. I really don't want to say anymore on this particular topic until after signing day but I definitely think our coaches could improve their recruiting methods.
Fair! I was just asking a general question but I agree I think our coaches should improve the recruiting methods. After all even Howland said "Recruiting" is the lifeblood of any program. Until Mullen understands that I think we will see similar results.

Does anyone know when we started recruiting Derrick Brown? Since he was a legacy and all, I would hope that we started early in his varsity career. But I doubt it.

Well there is a little more to do in Tuscaloosa but the only difference in Oxfart and Starkville is they have the square with more than likely more bars and we have the cotton district. I have no idea about College Station. I'm assuming you know

Well technically yes more bars wouldn't hurt. Idk about you but most college kids like to party. That's what they want to do on these recruiting visits. I'm not saying we need to be doing what the Bears are doing obviously but more stuff for college kids to do since it's a true college town. I have had friends go to all different college towns and with a non biased answer most will tell you Starkville would rank close to last of having shit to do.

Maybe there's something about Starkville that rubs recruits the wrong way, I don't know. It's just mystifying to me that we can't seem to recruit in football like we can in baseball and basketball.

David Johnson just hinted at Knott making a decision at 1:30 today.
