Something said on Home Cooking yesterday
Weiner was talking to the guy from 247 ole miss about Javon Patterson starting as LG as a true freshman. The OM guy said it was purely talent alone and not anything due to lack of depth.
So, a true freshman, even though he is a 5* , starting as a LG isn't a depth issue? And he's next to LT Big Softy. The OM guy even said no one is getting by on that left side this season.

He must have missed that Tennessee commit that threw Patterson around like a stepchild

Yeah, the smoke was thick coming out my speakers. But, Weiner didn't have the balls to question him.

I heard the same thing on Memphis radio. I think it was 247's national guy talking about "impact freshmen".
My ears perked up and I smiled.

Just to be fair, you are talking about Kahlil Mckenzie who has been throwing everybody around. He truly is a monster and I'm glad we don't have to play them anytime soon.
But to start a true freshman on the OL, that is a recipe for disaster. It almost has to mean that they are an injury away from meltdown on the OL

Yeah, he's an 18-year old monster. Patterson is about to see exceptional college football players now, not exceptional high schoolers.
I think Patterson will be a really good player, but om's qb and rb's will take a beating depending on him this year IMO

And Patterson was not a 5 star. MS had no 5 star rated players last year.

Oh, really? Weiner sure called him a five star. I guess committing to ole miss gives him an extra star.

Yeah, just ask Alabama about starting a true freshman on the OL. They were a recipe for disaster.

If you start as a true Freshman- you better be a 3 year guy. Bama started the top OL recruit in the nation last year. Patterson aint that type of guy
Walk like the King or walk like you don't care who the King is

Haven't they already done it with Tunsil and Taylor? Not sure it really means anything yet. If he's the best, he's the best.

JB Grimes once told me that you lose 1 game for every freshman you start.
This is great news for other SEC West teams, if Ole Miss is starting Patterson.
This also goes to show you how simplistic & primitive Ole Miss' blocking schemes are. No wonder they can't run the ball or block. There is no way a true freshman could start for Heavesy, due to the complexity of the blocking scheme.
Also, I've tried to give Weiner a shot & listen to his show on a frequent basis, & he is talented, but it's almost unlistenable at times, due to him buying into the Ole Miss recruiting, hype machine. Simply, when presenting a topic, the presenter has the power to present the facts in an optimistic or pessimistic manner, and Weiner frequently chooses to present OM topics in an optimistic way & MSU topics in a pessimistic fashion. After a while, you just can't listen to it anymore, due the spin.

Not true. Spread schemes are easier. If anything, Croom's scheme were the ones that were hard so your correlation of hard schemes to anything useful isn't valid.
Let's call a spade a spade - our guys typically aren't ready to play as freshmen. Is what it is.

Guess we'll find out in Week 3. I'm not going to call the guy wrong, but just looking at their offensive line play recently, it ain't been that doggone great. Me personally, I'm thinking they better go with the mobile quarterback because the middle line will be weak.

Javon Patterson was a 5-star on 247. As soon as David Johnson got off the air, JW said something to the effect of he wasn't so sure that was a good thing and didn't buy that. Then they went to break.
So to recap: David, who works for 247, was on and he and JW called Patterson a 5-star in that segment which he is on 247. As soon as the David Johnson interview was over he said he wasn't sure that was good. So basically everything in this thread accusing JW of pumping up Patterson's stars and then pumping sunshine are both factually incorrect. Carry on
-
One thing to keep in mind here is that the 247 guy's son is a high school O-lineman that's committed to Ole Miss. Him saying that his son's future position unit has poor depth is probably not in his or his son't best interest.
Just throwing that out there.

I didn't listen to it & am just going off of what was said in this thread. However, I do listen to Weiner once or twice a week, & he is VERY optimistic about most things OM & seems to have lack of appreciation for MSU.
That being said, he is very talented & runs a professional, tight, crisp show. Seems to be very organized. However, I don't want to hear about how Ole Miss is now a national recruiting power because they went to Dallas and grabbed a composite 3 star recruit from the most recruited high school in America, where the water boy would be rated a 4 star if he had two feet. Texas A&M can't play defense. I can assure you that they are losing a player to Ole Miss that they think can help them there.
