To be honest, I've never been a big fan of suspending kids from games for behavior except in clear cases of criminal misconduct. Those suspensions hurt the 104 other kids who probably had nothing to do with what one kid did. In this case, it could cost them a shot at an undefeated season. You can send a message to the other players without game suspensions.
These kind of suspensions create a support system where the whole roster of players has an interest to encourage each other not to screw up.
If Wallace knew Denzel could get suspended, he would have squashed that situation. Instead he stood there and let it happen.
