But our offense is starting to come around some, and their pitching is not great. We should be able to put up some early runs, and they haven't seen anything like Lindgren this year. If he just keeps his fastball down, we should have a good chance.
I'm hoping they get a little overconfident again, now that they've won 3 straight games handily, and aren't quite as focused and sharp at the plate. If we can throw up a few runs early, we could get them to start pressing, a la Jackson State.
BTW, I think Tatum is making his case for a weekend rotation spot next year.
Totally agree. Been very impressed with him. I could see him, Fitts, and Laster starting next year, with Ross coming back out of the pen 2 or 3 times per weekend, like he did last year.

It's going to be fun to see the competition in the fall. Fitts and Laster obviously start with a leg up, but I don't think it's a guarantee either one of them ends up in the rotation. I agree that I think Mitchell will return to the bullpen.
So we'll have one spot definitely open and in reality, we'll have competition for all 3. And I think the guys who will be battling for those spots will be Fitts, Laster, Tatum, Woodruff, Hudson, Sexton, and possibly Paul Young, if he's able to be ready by then. That's a lot of talented arms, it'll just come down to whether guys like Woodruff and Hudson look like they're commanding their pitches better. Obviously ideally, you'd have a rotation of something like Woodruff-Hudson-Tatum, but I seriously doubt they all step up to that level.

Yea, I REALLY hope Butch works hard with Hudson in the off season. If he gets command of a change up, curve, and that heater he has....wow, dude could be the Ace we've needed since Stratton left.

Yeah, he and Woodruff both have first-round ace stuff. I'm still holding out hope Woodruff comes back and the light comes on, a la Stratton or Girodo as seniors. If it does, he'll be filthy.
And I totally agree on Hudson. He just has the look of an ace; good, clean, mechanically sound delivery, big-time fastball, and the potential for good secondary stuff as well.

Couldn't agree more.
I'm sure we'll have some injuries and some guys not pan out....but the thought of guys like Woodruff, Tatum, Hudson, Sexton, and Paul Young healthy and improved, to add to Fitts, Ross, Laster, Holder (?), Cox (?), Brown (?)
Makes you kinda excited about the potential. If Butch can ever get a full healthy staff....damn we could roll out stud after stud after stud.

Coach, what you think? $250 for the perfect score?

Laster gives us 6 in the first two. Lindgren comes in and shuts them down, but it's too late.
ULL - 8
MSU - 5
