At what point does the NIL bubble bust?

I think players should get paid, but giving them all the leverage is not sustainable. The product is worse now bc team's are basically rebuilt every season. Schools want more and more money while attendance is already dropping. For the good of the game, I wish all player salaries were required to be paid by the school with a hard cap established by the conference. I wish players were given one free transfer and then they have to sit a year without pay for 2nd transfer. I think this would make a better product.

More importantly? When did you hit 77K posts?? Should've been a celebration. I know this sounds like sarcasm... but it's really not. Hats off to MS7! I agree with you ~43.89% of the time.

Hot take, but I think the NIL has added excitement to the sport. Cannot compare it to pre-NIL because it is clearly not the same.

From a viewer perspective and not an avid fan for any particular school I bet it’s awesome to see the equal level of play throughout the conference and beyond.

Look at the playoff this year, a lot of the same ol’ but plenty of new faces.

Limiting transfers has to happen. Thats where this bullshit will slow down instead of spiraling.

I agree with pretty much all of this. The main reason we have different schools show up towards the top is they have decided to be big spenders. There are exceptions but few. I grew up on college football supposedly being a fair competition. I liked the thought of that idea, whether true or not. But I at least had it in my mind that cheaters would be punished. Fair competition is out the window now with this model. Salary cap would help bring some of that fairness back. Only problem is you have to have an ncaa that’s not corrupt and the balls to inflict severe punishment when rules are broken.

NIL is here forever but they have to change to a pro format. Athletic departments need to operate via collective bargaining duty salary caps. And it needs to be funded via revenue share from tv contracts, ticket sales, merch, etc… NOT THE FANS. Each school’s athletic department needs to be essentially a sports franchise. Who are we kidding, they aren’t student athletes anymore.

The workaround for the big schools that really want to go overboard is off field staffing & a “pro athlete” program like the UFC PI. The differentiating factors can’t be 100’s of millions of spending disparities among schools.

Yep. And this would limit supply and demand for players which would drive the costs down in multiple ways.

It's about to happen soon imo. Nick Saban keeps pushing every chance he gets and requesting Congress gets involved. I think he'll make it happen.

You can't tell a player what he can earn. But you can tell him we are not paying that much. But everybody must say no, as long as they don't discuss it with each other. Maybe a cap system. But you know if the NCAA and the universities weren't so greedy and had revenue sharing at the start instead of putting the onus on the booster and fans then all this could have been avoided. Also like 34 said It's not the NIL thats the main problem but the unlimited transfer portals. Hey look no matter what you might think the product on the field is getting worse. Players need to grow and develop and that means staying in the same place under the same system for at least 2 years. Receivers not as much but OLinemen need time to develop mainly by working with the same people.

The Networks and Sports Media will never let parity occur. They want the same 10-15 programs to always be at the Top for ratings.

The younger generation has some to do with this too. The family loyalty to specific schools is fading. Young fans are more regionalized in their fandom even moreso than fans have always been for pro sports. Fans of pro teams are not geographically bound in their fandom. It is getting more like that for young college fans ( and sidewalk fans).

With regards to the sports media, they couldn?t stand that JMU and Tulane made the playoffs over Texas and Notre Dame.
To them Ole Miss and Trinidad are cute stories but the media doesn?t want a school like Ole Miss or Vanderbilt to become a regular member of the Elites.

Like Colonel Jessup said: ? You NEED ME on that WALL! You WANT ME on that WALL!?

The sports media ? NEEDS teams like State and Arkansas and Vandy and Kentucky and yes, even Ole Miss, as whipping boys for the Elites to keep the big money flowing!! Don?t ever doubt that. If some of these lesser programs start winning on the regular because of NIL and Portal, They will be the ones who lobby for a fix because Ratings are driven by the Names on the Jerseys!

This is the only way an sense of stability is reestablished. If the every other week transfer is quelled that might help the funding situation, at least a program can have have a portion of the roster locked in place and not have to recruit them every year.

This is how you stop it.

I have said forever that NIL by itself is not a bad thing. The portal by itself is not a bad thing. But combining the two together was just an all time dumb mistake.

The highest paid coach in the NFL is Andy Reid. There are 120 players that make more than him. It won't be sustainable when highest paid person becomes the men actually performing the tasks on the field. Coaches are not the most important ingredient in a football team.

What is out of line is the amount we pay coaches, not the players.

As you know, hardcore, soon-to-be 59-year consecutive football season holder. Sitting at the Egg, after attending every home game and watching them all, I asked my son after a good play (very few, unfortunately) who that was, as I didn't know the names of the vast majority of State players by their number. He didn't know either, and he, like me, is hardcore State and tries to know this, but it is almost impossible with the portal, which is out of control.

This has ruined college sports worse than NIL, which is not NIL, but hand me the $ now.

It must be that NIL money 7 gets for posting so much** Btw Turf how many times has 7 wanted a coach fired while posting during a game? Asking for a friend.

This, along with the greed of the NCAA and its refusal to pay players virtually anything, led to all of this, and the coaches' salaries and even bigger payouts when they are fired are terrible. It's all about $. I have received three paper statements by mail and one email requesting my Bulldog dues now, even though the deadline is June 30 of this year. I complained twice by phone and once by email, and they said it was a mistake and would end, and it hasn't, a waste of $ and time.

They will get my $, but not 6 to 8 months early.

BTW, the deadline info was almost hidden in the statement. There were many unsold season tickets around me last season in Section 4 and it will be worse this season after 7-18 and 1-15. All fans I know in NE MS do not think there is much hope at all.

The transfer portal is the problem... We really need to find a way to limit the transfer portal to solve these problems of player revolving door every year.

The situation is you can't just limit someone's earnings without some sort of collective bargaining. They have to be employees for that to happen and the University & States that own these public institutions DO NOT want that.

I've called for Croom, ray, lemonis, moorhead, arnett, jans, and Lebby to be fired. I never called for cohen, Mullen, or howland to be fired. Howland probably deserved it, and Jans did not.
