We lost a juco DE because of money. Proven transfer players will have us at about #6 on their list at best. LSU, Florida, Arkansas, Auburn, and possibly Ole Miss have to make splashes in the portal. It's a shitty situation for us. Even more than normal this time.

That's why we've already been tampering with players for about a month.

24/7 still shows this player committed to us, so what's up?
Also took a commitment Kison Shepard, a former OL who had committed to us out of HS but had to go the JC route. 6'7", 325 lbs, rated .84, 85 nationally, 15 at position and 29th in state JC.
Class is now ranked 44th nationally including the DL that you are reporting as flipping from us to SMU.
We need to beat OM in the worse way for so many reasons including getting quality flips for thsi class. How many Scout team types and developmental "diamonds inthe rough" players do we need to rebuild our roster? I thought that was last year's class. Do we need this type signings two years in a row? Color me concerned.

Any idea who those players are? I know Cunningham is one of them

Cunningham is definitely one. There's a couple of players on Arkansas' roster that we are interested in. We also are keeping tabs on a couple of Florida guys.

Well, you guys were right, the JC DE from Texas has been removed from our list of commits, and the class drops to #46 nationally. Except for a couple of receivers, I see no one in this class that can help us next year except maybe on the scout team. Unless we are saving most of our money for the portal this may well be the worst ranked MSU HS/JC class in my long history of following MSU recruiting. We need some quality flips and I don't see that happening if we go 5-7 and get croomed in the Egg Bowl to boot. JMO.

Yeah this class is badddd right now. It's the worst that I can remember in a long time. I'm hoping and betting they will utilize the portal pretty hard, but I feel like high school recruiting isn't still important. Maybe I'm wrong.

If I have to pay you for multiple years and hope you’ll contribute later, it’s not worth it. We are not a program with the time or money to do that. We will live or die by the portal.I don’t know what we are paying Stonka, but he has had no production for two years and he was a big recruit. Prime example of why HS recruiting only matters for immediate impact.

If we get a couple of guys we can finish strong and get a couple of good players that can help us. JJ Hill is very underrated and should be a 4 star guy. Cotton will be a good TE and he is a four star guy. I really like Jayden Cration from Canton too and I think we have some solid OL prospects. Jaiden Taylor will be a very good player for us too.
I think right now in the present the most important thing MSU can do as far as recruiting is focus on the portal with all of the turmoil out there. There are some players that we should have gotten that we can get back. We have Kamario as a QB that we can build around and can use to attract talent. Not that we should neglect high school recruiting totally because if you get a guy like Bralan Womack he is a guy that is a day one starter for us potentially.

You're not pulling any players off their roster in all likelihood. A lot of those kids are LA kids. Their dream is play at LSU.
Here's an interesting note: LSU has NOT LOST ONE COMMIT in state since Brian Kelly was fired. Those kids don't care who the coach is. They just want to play at LSU

I can't even begin to describe how much I respect a kid that truly commits to the school they grew up wanting to play for. Especially in todays world. That's one reason why I want KT to be so successful. Hopefully no matter what.. he sticks with his dream of playing for the Maroon and White!

Kamario likes being a DAWG, don't get me wrong. But if someone offered him a bunch more than what we're paying, he'd take it. Zavion Thomas took a 6 figure pay cut to transfer from State to LSU. The Weeks brothers turned down a combined, for all 3, 7 figure NIL deal to transfer. Nussmeier turned down a higher offer. The list goes on and on. It's different down there. I wish kids in this state felt the way about State, and hell even OM, the way that LA kids feel about LSU. Hell the Weeks brothers are from GA and they love LSU and LA more than our in state kids love MS State or OM.
That is why LSU is a top 3 job. Because they get EVERY KID in that state that they want. Hell, and if they don't want them out of HS they can get them in the portal.

I wish kids felt the same way too. But being honest with myself.. you really can't blame kids for wanting to go to a place like LSU. The history of success, Saturday nights in Death Valley, the after party... the list can go on. 18-22 year old kids are looking for a good time. Not saying Starkville can't provide that. But kids at that age want more than what Mississippi usually has to offer. And I hate it! Hard to fault them tho. Throw in the money now and you have a tough situation

I was really talking about the Mississippi guys on their roster. Definitely don't expect to pull any of their Louisiana guys unless Kiffin just outright cuts them.

You don't know if KT would leave, stop it. You just can't help yourself.

It's easy when there is no other real rival in state. Tulane is the only team that would have a prayer of competing against LSU in football and they might beat LSU once in 20 years if they played every year and even then that is probably being optimistic.
Florida has to compete in state with Florida State and Miami. Georgia has to compete with Georgia Tech. Even Alabama has to deal with Auburn.
LSU's biggest competition probably is Alabama and that's just for maybe a handful of players.
Louisiana doesn't have as many JUCO's either so the ULL's, ULM's, Southeast Louisiana, etc. are really almost like their community college system in that if you want to go to college close to home you go there. But their favorite team is LSU.
