I don't know a single person who thinks he's the answer next week or next year. All these bad in-game decisions which he has doubled down, ala JoMo, have turned everyone off.
A win over Ole Miss, 6-6, and even a bottom-tier bowl would provide hope for next year.
This is what I am talking about. Our fans haven't even given him a chance to turn it around. We hire a coach with no experience and then we're mad because he is learning on the job. And then people say he should be fired for not starting the QB they want.
And this is a coach who didn't take over the 2017 MSU Bulldogs. This is post Arnett while trying to figure out NIL MSU.
Our fans are stupid when it comes to football.
And oh by the way I forgot to mention the fact that he more than doubled his won total from last year. But yeah. Let's fire him because he couldn't win 8 with a roster built to win 6.

Jomo sucked. As of now, I give the edge to Lebby. I would like to see Lebby with the 2018 team and see how it went.
I agree that JoMo had much more talent, but my comparison is JoMo turned a possible 10-2 team into an 8-4 team by his stubborn know-it-all bad in-game decisions much like Lebby has turned a possible 8-win team into a 5-win team if we lose to Ole Miss.

We have some of the most long-suffering fans in college football and the majority are not stupid. I'm not for firing him, I'm just calling him out for his in-game blunders to date, but I don't know why we have to put up with on the job training coaches. If we beat Ole Miss to go to 6-6, I have hope. If 2026 is a replay of this year, it's another story. As far as doubling our win total, we have victories over 3 OOC cupcakes and a miracle against Arizona State but let's be proud of a signature win against an Arkansas program that practically gave us the game on penalties with a last minute pass again being the difference.
So the roster is built to beat six, huh? We sure need to beat Ole Miss next week.

Or maybe hire Sumrall 2 years ago instead of Lebby. Just a thought.
Maybe our fans aren't as dumb as you think they are. And I'm not a Lebby hater. I want him to succeed, but he has made terrible in game decisions.

My wife said that is the defintion of insanity. I have an opinion just like you and I know a lot of people in my area, and very few think Lebby is the answer.
Fair enough and I respect the opinion, but with how much talent JMo had I just can't compare him to Lebby. It's apples to oranges imo. I can't even do the Arnett one though, that dude was an absolute clown. He wasn't even the HC on our team besides in name

I also don't believe this roster is built to win 6. I still think 6 would be massively over achieving for this year (and feel EVERYONE on this board would have agreed back in July 6 would have been a great year for us). 8 would have been coach of the year territory lol.

What happens if Sumrall ends up being the same as Napier? All I'm saying is there is no way to know he would have been good.

I haven't seen many posters on here saying Lebby needs to be fired. I've seen fans speaking the truth about bad game in game decisions. It doesn't make anyone dumb and doesn't mean they don't understand the game. You can question all of this while still supporting and hoping Lebby succeeds.

When you have fans that say a coach should be fired because he is not starting the quarterback that they want to start. A QB that by the way has been sacked almost as many times as the starting QB because their theory hinges on the fact that because the QB is more mobile he would be sacked less. That is absolutely dumb.
Our fans want to win. But they also demand that MSU win a certain way. Which is why I say they're dumb.
The bottom line is MSU fans value the wrong things. There is too much blame on the coach and never enough blame on the players or the situation or looking for tangible solutions to improve the situation. It's always hey let's fire so and so and hire some offensive guru who can do more with less. For once- just once- it would be nice to see a majority of our fans say "Hey let's improve our NIL and recruiting efforts and try to bring in better players and more depth." But then that puts the onus on the fans and they don't like that because then they're part of the problem. And instead of saying "you know I should maybe pledge more money" they just bitch about people asking them to give more money.
And yes, Lebby has done some things that are head scratching and over aggressive and wrong. But there has never been a football game where one single play was "the reason" why a team lost. Coaches make calls that don't work all the time every single game. But at MSU they blow up more because we lack depth and players. And that magnifies everything.
So that's why I am saying we should give more money and support Lebby instead of running him down because of petty bullshit like not starting "a mobile QB" after an offseason where fans constantly said that Shapen shouldn't be running no less. And now it's "he won't make changes to staff" when the season isn't even over yet. I mean- damn- give him a chance to make changes after the season is over at least. And if he doesn't then criticize. But give him the chance. Do we really want to go into the Egg Bowl with no defensive staff like Rhoads can do it all by himself?
And it's not just Lebby it's every coach except for Dan who was given a complete pass by fans for doing a lot of the same crap. But you know what? That also shows what can happen when you're patient and you go give someone a chance to succeed.
As far as me and Lebby- I want him to work out because he is our head coach and him having success is good for MSU. If he doesn't work out, he doesn't work out but at least I gave him a chance. We'll just go hire another coach like Joe Judge or whoever. Rinse and repeat.

Napier in Y1= 3 sec wins. Napier in Y2 = 3 sec wins
Lebby in Y1 = 0 sec wins. Lebby in Y2 = 1 sec win
Lebby is an ace. Napier sucks

No way to know how Sumrall turns out. How would our fans have reacted if he brought in the guy who was the OC at Arkansas under Chad Morris? That's who his guy was at Tulane. Their offense is extremely boring. And I do think there is some risk with Sumrall because he took over a Tulane program that didn't need rebuilding and was already in a great spot and he didn't change much. Similar to Napier when he took over for Hud at ULL.

We absolutely should be proud of that win over Arizona State. There was no luck there. We made plays and dominated them all night.
And yes, this roster was built to win six. That is this teams ceiling. We may not quite get there but with an easier schedule there is no question we would.

Yes. Screw "learning on the job." This is the SEC. Be good or get out.

It was "built to win six" before we realized that Florida and Arkansas were significantly worse than last year, and Texas, Arizona State, Tennessee, and Missouri had all taken a clear step back too.
You have to update your priors when you get new information. You just have to.

Agree with your entire premise…except for this sentence. And in reality it’s true but only because there have been multiple horribly mind boggling decisions and plays in each of the close losses. One play isn’t the reason cuz the handful of terrible decisions were.
Again…not for Lebby’s firing. In fact I think that would 100% be the wrong move right now. But I am for our own ultimatum of hiring him an OC in title that can help him with his weakness. Or that he trusts to call plays within his system

If Lebby gets to 6 - 6 (2-6) then he did ok this year. We were some really dumb in game coaching decisions from 7-5 (3-5) or even 8-4 (4-4). At the beginning of the year I said 6-6 was our ceiling so he will have met those expectations. With that said Lebby is largely the reason we aren’t already bowl eligible. If he follows up next season with 1 or 0 wins in the SEC he just needs to be let go.

It's built to win 3.5 according to the experts.
