Ive been saying this for a while and its true, Jans is a hard coach to play for. He is very demanding, he will cuss you out and he's not a great offensive coach (most kids love offense obviously). This isnt New Mexico State where guys have minimal offers or are coming out of JUCO and are hungry so they will put up with being cussed at, he's just not a coach alot of players are tearing the door down to come and play for.
Last time I said this I was accused of wanting the man fired.. I am not saying that but I also dont like the way this team looks or our energy. Everyone just looks pissed off, no one seems to be having fun. I think guys like Cam Matthews and even Tolu Smith held these teams together.

Agree, thjs is idiotic scheduling. If you are going to play a road game make sure it counts as a road game. If its in the home state of the team you are playing then its not a neutral site game.

It's year 4. We should be better than this. This year is going to be abysmal.

Certainly not a good thing, but I do think you'll see more stinkers out of nowhere now with NIL for lots of teams. In the past, you built up a team and you generally could count on teams staying consistent or improving. Now you have massive turnover, so it makes sense that you'll have more boom and bust years.
If things don't improve, I wanna play grace, Davis-Fleming, macura, Ali, Bartlett, etc. Just see what we got in these guys.

Yea we really need to stop doing this. Just go play them on their home court. It's better for your NET anyways.
Right now we are NOT a good basketball team. I think we can get there but right now we suck. We are BAD defensively right now. There is no way around that. I did take a couple of positives from last night, I thought Jayden Epps had his best game and I thought Ballard finally got a little bit involved. It's a long season so it's not terrible that we're losing this early to really good teams, but we need to get it together before conference play begins.

Bartlett can't get up and down the floor. The coaches were really disappointed with how he showed up. He was WAY overweight. I don't disagree with getting a little more run out of JDF. I think he's been really good early on, especially for a Freshman. Macura is still learning how to play the American game. That will come. I think he's a big X factor for us as we move forward. Grace is going to get minutes. We need to figure out what we want to do with Ali. I think he can be good, but the coaches just simply don't trust him.

Yep. We have 1 month to get things figured out.

Only because the money and emphasis we place on it. Congrats. You?ve pointed out the issue. We need to place the same amount of emphasis and the same level of funding to other sports. Baseball is fun and all but I can guarantee you this. 100%. The boosters continue to focus on baseball first then our children and grandchildren will be watching State play baseball in a G5 conference.

I'll go a step further and say if we continue to prioritize it like we do, those same people that prioritize it will be sitting on their rigs watching us play Troy in a weekend series in 5 years.
LSU can fund it the way they do because they completely privately fund it. Todd Graves and Gordon McKernan basically fund LSU's baseball NIL by themselves.

This basketball squad has absolutely nothing to do with our baseball program. Nada, zilch, Zero. You guys really get confused a lot.

There was a baseball quote made and people were responding to it.
We're quite aware that Brian O Conner getting [insert Virginia player] from the transfer portal had nothing to do with Chris Jans not being able to find a lockdown perimeter defender. Hell our basketball NIL is actually pretty well funded between Oscar and Richard.

The problem is that after a month we might have to have a winning record in the SEC to even make the NIT. Jans is going to have to figure out how to recruit in the NIL era. Right now we are wasting a lot of money to get guys here and either not play or half ass play.

I was responding directly to another poster who called out “fans who get mad we emphasize baseball”. I guess their stance is we should emphasize baseball because the basketball and football programs suck. Which is a terrible take and also relates to the overall theme of this thread following another basketball loss.

10 SEC wins should still get you in. We have another Q1 opportunity tonight. We get SMU in a week, Memphis next month, and then SEC play starts.
Now, we have to win those games, but like C34 said we have a month to figure it out. That starts tonight. We really could use a win.

Dollars go a LOT further in baseball. To do the 'same level of funding' in football would take every NIL dollar we have and then some. We still put way, way more NIL into football than baseball and we all see the results. A part of our issue in football is NIL for players but another big part is a G5 level coaching staff. Probably be better to spend extra money there first if thats what it takes to get an SEC level staff. Our defensive staff and special teams coaching are really bad.
