You can see the talent they have on the field so obviously they are spending at a higher level. Their HC didnt suddenly just become a much better coach.
How much are we paying our 3 QBs?

For MSU, a must to have a few large donors whose wealth is mostly liquid to be all-in and then a well-orchestrated approach to adjoining the rest of the many who simply love our school (think Clemson ITPAY strategy). It's what we have just started in baseball. Note the fan confidence that now exist for that sport even before the 2026 season begins. Now do we have that ability to replicate that strategy in much bigger denominations in football?
Our main issue is using an up to date method to build a football program. We hired Arnett to "keep the recruiting class together" in the portal era for example. Being late to embrace NIL is another example.

But the worst is overreliance on coaching and underestimating player acquisition.

Good to hear, I was fearing it was closer to $3mil. For some reason, I thought we highly overpaid for Chrome-in-hawk. So, I'm guessing they all got around the same amount?

To be completely honest with you, I think there?s a world where Luke K could be out starting QB next year.

A- a starting qb is more than a half no matter. A good OL and good DL are more than what you think. A lot of variables I'm not going to get into specifics.

There's a world and they'd let him compete. But I'll just be honest with you, I don't see him sticking around. I mostly feel that way because all signs point to us bringing in a veteran portal QB to battle with Taylor, Kromenhoek, and McWhorter for the starting job and I don't see Kromenhoek staying for that.

Agreed SVS. The process will go very similar to last year's. Van Buren left when it was told to him that we will seek another year for Shapen. End of season exit meetings and coaching strategy for 2026 will likely remove 1 of the returning roster QBs.

I think he has the tools to be a P4 QB, I just think he may be more served to be at a NC State or Wake Forest type program over an SEC program. He could go somewhere like Jax State or Middle and run roughshod over their conferences

I firmly believe that MSU is best served by very mobile QBs and some height (6-2 and above) going forward. I did not say a "running" QB either. Very mobile QBs can really help OL deficiencies and offset OL weaknesses along with being able to regularly "see the field" for best results on broken plays. Often, broken plays become some of your most explosive plays!

Everyone wants a "mobile" qb that can throw. They aren't that many of them. Hell auburn thought Arnold was that. He ain't.

I would consider Shapen a "mobile" qb if he wasn't so flat footed in the pocket. The kid isn't slow by any means. He just doesn't really know how to make things happen outside the pocket. I know that probably don't make sense. I guess I'm saying he has the potential to be a good mobile qb for us. For some reason he just isn't.
