Boosters at schools that give big money

Curious on what everyone knows .
    1. For MSU what would be the ballpark of a "big booster". One million +?

    2. For athletics just curious on some of the schools being bankrolled by billionaires. Tx Tech, Ole Miss (Scruggs worth over 1.7 billion), yell fella, etc. Asking after hearing Saban talking about schools now that compete are different schools. I could see Vandy getting energized as well, to some degreee.

I went to a Yale football game once. Totally different vibe. Felt like I was at a quidditch match more than a football game.

    1. It depends if you are talking annual gift or one time. We have some boosters that I would not consider big time that have given large one time gifts. Jim Rouse and Tommy Nusz both come to mind. As far as annual, probably annually giving anything over 100K plus will put you in that territory. To be with the big boys(Adkerson, Howard, McKinnis, Rula, Sanders, Seal, etc) you will probably need to be above 250K and probably closer to 500K than 250K.

    2. Texas Tech has Cody Campbell and his money, but they have multiple 9 figure net worth individuals as well. As for OM, Dickie gives but he is not the only one. David Nutt has a net worth well over 500 million, Jerry Hollingsworth is a 9 figure or damn close to it net worth, John Black is giving them money left and right. Auburn has Jimmy Randle but also has some other 7 and 8 figure net worth guys giving some serious change. They used to have Bobby Lowder but he is not very involved anymore.

It's def changing. The Big Ten is negotiating with a damn money broker to fund their schools for the bigtime. Texas Tech is supposedly this highest spender in NIL this season for football. They are sitting at 7-1 after going 8-5 last year. Candy is paying their QB at least $2MM that we know about. You can see the talent they have on the field so obviously they are spending at a higher level. Their HC didnt suddenly just become a much better coach.

Houston - Tillman gives tons. I imagine several more and they have a law school. Just saw they have a QB commit ranked high

Good point about the Big Ten- They have money but it is probably going to art galleries and such

Did we at one time in the past have a gift from a family that the funds are sitting where we use it for rainy day, or something like that.

Idk how true it is but I read that one booster for LSU is paying BK what he is owed for his buyout. If true then that is mind blowing to me

We had somewhere between 50 and 100 million left to us by Leo Seal that was specifically designed for coach hiring/firing.

It is in the best interest, of casinos, that UNLV get good soon because casinos contributed to Allegiant Stadium? They can compliment tickets to preferred clients? The Raiders have maxed out for preferred clients.

If Ole Miss can get the money to fund their team, there's no reason we can't other than incompetent admin.

It's hard to wrap your head around how much $1B is. For an easy math example, 5% interest on $1B is $50M. A couple of billionaire boosters can support a college football team on their own and quite a few schools have multiple billionaire boosters.
I recently saw that Todd Graves is worth $22B and he basically has an open checkbook for LSU. It's hard to believe that the governor and the LSU board can **** that up but they sure are trying.

As much as we hear about Bill Jordan at Realtree and ole miss, am I reading correctly online that his net worth is around only 10-15 million. Good money, but not money to be wasting on 18 year old football players.
Assuming his company funds and not personal wealth.

Also worth noting that net worth and liquid capital to give to a football team are 2 entirely different things

I firmly believe it takes a true "All-In" strategy: Driven School Administration which commits and supports upmost department resources (football personnel), Absolutely correct HC hire, Upmost fan support (attendance, event support, "word of mouth" and most important-donations). For MSU, a must to have a few large donors whose wealth is mostly liquid to be all-in and then a well-orchestrated approach to adjoining the rest of the many who simply love our school (think Clemson ITPAY strategy). It's what we have just started in baseball. Note the fan confidence that now exist for that sport even before the 2026 season begins. Now do we have that ability to replicate that strategy in much bigger denominations in football?

Absolutely. But the more billionaire donors you have the better off you are.

I'm not saying you're wrong. But I've never heard of anything close to this.
