Having driven to Athens many times in the 1980s, it was just as bad. It was 85 miles from my home north of Atl to Sanford Stadium. Yeah, we could take I-75, to 285, to 85 - for about half. That last 40 miles on Ga 316 - that was 2 lanes from Norcross thru Dacula, and Winder was 2:30 to 3:00 hours of bumper to bumper gridlock. No one tailgated in Athens because you couldn't get there.
