When is the last time the disparity has been this big?

The disparity ( despair-ity) between us and OM right now is pretty drastic.

Football:
Them: 10-3, 1st round QB
Us: 2-10, 0-8 SEC, nobody drafted at all.

Basketball;
Them: Sweet 16 and almost elite 8
Us: first round losers again, haven?t one a single game since 2008

Baseball:
Them: playing in sec final as we speak
Us: firing coach mid season and barely squeezing out a regional appearance after getting blown out in the first round of the tournament.

I don?t know what the answer is but it?s sickening how they have widened the gap on us in recent years and it doesn?t look like that?s changing anytime soon. I know we can beat them regular season in atleast basketball and baseball but that?s not worth much of anything in the grand scheme of things.

There's no difference in basketball. We swept them. Their draw was better in the ncaa. There's two years prior we finished a good bit of them.

There's no difference in baseball. Or marginal at most. We finished 1 game apart and we won the series. Either team could win a regional.

They have been way ahead in football due to them making a great hire and us making a few bad hires. But that gap will be closed this fall, as you will see. They will still be better though.

They still got ways to go to catch us in basketball - men or women. Yes end of last year they had better but got to look deeper than that.

Football - yeah recently they got us but we won 9 games and beat them in Oxfart in 22. 10 years prior to that we had a better run. This current gap will not stay this way. We'll close the gap starting this fall.

Baseball - again look at the long haul. 16-21 was as dominant a baseball run as ever - 5 straight supers, 3 straight to Omaha. No one in NCAA history has ever done that - let that sink in a minute. OM been to Omaha what twice in school history? No, they still behind us.

I agree with feeling like they have left us in dust but in reality they have not, it just feels like it with recency bias. We'll be back and soon.

I know for a fact that the fake plantation owners cheated back in the day way better than us. While we were buying recruits/players momma’s a whole new furniture set they were buying recruits/players momma’s houses and getting family members jobs. It was just that much difference back then between us and them. And we were both very inferior to other teams in our conference.

So yes they have a very big lead of a network of donors willing to give big bucks to purchase players. So when NIL came they were basically up and running buying players. “Us” we were so deadgum caught up being altar boys and not even really trying to play the game of buying players under the table back in the day. Imo that is why they are way ahead of us.

Do you think we would have thought to go after bad players like Kelly in football, Marshall Henderson in basketball etc. etc. Sure we got a d lineman that was caught on video beating up a female. But that was the exception rather than the norm.

Exactly. And I think football drives perception of the whole athletic department as a whole fair or not. Probably like that at most schools so it's not like that is just a MSU thing.

Leach actually had us ahead of Ole Miss and Kiffin when he passed away and he had more of a rebuild IMO. Had he survived we would be talking about how Sawyer Robertson might be getting ready to make a Heisman run.

More than anything we need a decent football season.

Basketball I feel like we are relatively even. I think Hubbard is a special player similar to Timmy Bowers and it feels like we have a chance to put something together there.

Baseball has underachieved and Ole Miss's NC hangover was actually worse than ours. Yes, we fired our coach but the team isn't a dumpster fire like what Cohen took over in 2008. We're at least a regional team and we'll see how the hire goes but if we make the right one we could be 2016-2021 elite again very quickly. With a better head coach we could and should have had a season like Ole Miss has had this year.

So it's more that we're rebuilding and on the upswing and in the meantime they have had a lot more stability.

They also aren't afraid to hire coaches with baggage while our president and boosters would never go for that. They want to win at all costs. We like to win, but it's not our #1 priority.

They also have been willing to embrace modern and exciting offense while MSU insisted on years that we had to run the ball to win like we're Army or Navy.

It hasn't been this big in my lifetime. It's not just the money that is different but Lane effect has really changed things over there. Their brand. Their will to win things.. The media loves talking about them.

Meanwhile, the media who used to talk us down don't even mention us now. Our brand been so diminished with no visible light at the end of the tunnel at the moment. We are going to have to make it from sweat equity and hard edge determination. All the success Mullen had has been essentially erased.
