There is no explanation. Everyone on this board was calling for him in the 8th.

Is Hungate finished for the year? We really need another reliable arm.

But the program needs post season and energy to keep MSU intact with recruiting, roster stability and letting the coaching decision happen from a position of strength.

Happens to at least one State pitcher every year. Got to have more solid depth than one side-arm pitcher who throws an 87 mph fastball! Dotson and Williams look like guys in the Previous pitching coaches trading program. Ligon is a 3 inning pitcher, not a starter. State will be 0-1 in Hoover and if they back into a regional, 2 & Q! Most teams who get into your bull pen hurt you. Not State. State gets into the bull pen and shuts down immediately!
Just way too soft a team! Sanders beginning to turn into a dirt bag and Powell already is one. Highfill comes to the ball park with dirty pants because he sure doesn't do much to get them dirty! Hines couldn't hit Oklahoma's Ace Softball pitcher and Sullivan aint a 3,4 or 5 spot hitter. He is more of a 6-7 spot batter. Move Chance to leadoff, Frei to 2nd Reeves to 3rd, Reese to cleanup, and Powell to 5th. Bat Hines 6th and Sullivan 7th! Sanders 8th, play O'Brien in Right and bat him 9th!

Because Parker can't manage a pitching staff and no one has a defined role.
We put the guy that should be our closer in the 6th inning.
He should have pulled Ligon after four. We got lucky he somehow by the grace of God he got out of it in the fifth- that was big time playing with fire right there.
After that we should have gone to McPherson. We especially should have gone to him after we stole an inning.
Then it should have been Dotson and Williams.
We played with fire all night and luckily survived the burns.

Todd, my man.
Using the closer in a high leverage moment is something people do. I fully expected Williams to pitch two soul crushing innings and settle the game. But he did not. When the lead horse fails, usually the rest of the pen follows. It didn't.
Not saying storing McP was correct. However, Dotson is someone that Parker loves in high leverage. I don't but he does. JP should have intentionally walked that big Mormon Kid. The splits had red flags of danger for a Left handed pitcher. Mistake.
Consider however, this is a pen without Hungate and Black. Those were supposed to be our best and most experienced. Pruitt is an ugly and nerdy Andrew Walling. Mannell is the new Holcombe. Charlie Foster is? Burns is not ready. Loftin is in his 3rd year of rest. Need to use the nerds versus North Alabama and start using Sullivan in the SEC, need that good arm.
You got give JP a little credit for piecing together a staff with so many big problems. Williams and Simmons after two years of injury. Siary is a great high school recruit that was lovingly developed and Ligon is an injured possum that wildlife rescue Vet girls mended.

Up 6-1 with a runner on first is high leverage now?
The reality is no one on the pitching staff in the bullpen has an actual defined role and that makes it a lot harder to pitch. It's also a lot harder to pitch when you come into a 1 run game with a jam created by your pitching coach because he can't tell when someone is gassed or not.
We knew that we were losing Stephen and Loo by this time last year and we knew we were losing Hardin and Davis and we also knew we were losing Auger. Did we hit the portal hard for pitching? No. And who is responsible for that? Parker and Lemonis. And both will be gone soon because of it.
If anything Burns should be pitching more. He has a lower conference ERA than McPherson and most of the damage done against him was in his first two outings. He was solid against Auburn and Kentucky. Mannell should be pitching more. He was good against Ole Miss in game one. He has had only one bad outing out of three appearances.
I don't get how come some guys get shelved after one bad outing and others continue to just get hung out to dry? And yet Ben Davis gives up a run almost every time they pitch.
He's not piecing things together. He's throwing shit against the wall and hoping that something sticks which is essentially what happened tonight. Barely.
The only noticeable difference between Lemonis and Parker is that Parker is willing to let guys pitch more than once on the weekend.

They failed to get Root, Bedeljuice, or the Florida kid. Van Horn, LSU Johnson, and even Butch out-recruiting MSU in the portal. Texas got the good Indiana State kid. MSU got no pitchers from the OM exodus, not even JT Quinn. The Kentucky junior took the draft position. LSU cleaned up on quality transfers. That is on the JP and Lemons that LSU, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Texas got the best transfers.
People saying Lemons was super lazy and does not work 12 months like Vitello does. Also, it hurts that MSU looks to be in decline. People not excited about Regional Finals, I guess. They see who is in Omaha. I wonder how Butch sold a 8-22 season in the portal. He must work harder.
On Burns, those stats are deceptive. He had a decent Auburn game in a dead game. Dotson is also good in those mop up deals. Burns is going to be good but you can see the strikezone is a problem. He even posted his K to Ball ratio, he's not yet a control and location pitcher.

Everybody needs to smoke a cig and be grateful. I was as mad as everyone, but years from now in the school annual the score will read 6-5 and who cares how we got the W. Got a great chance for post season. I’m grateful.

Have you ever tried to hit 70 at 43' coming underhanded? That's the equivalent to like a mid upper 90s fb.
2 and Q after the way the season looked will be alright going into a coaching search. At least the team didn't completely quit.
A lot of work to be done for the new coach for sure. As rough of an athletics year this has been it'll be nice to have some post season play. Can't worry about the past just gotta look forward. Just gotta take care of MO.

I'm sure next year will be a rebuild but it needs to happen.
