    Sir Charles on NIL

    https://www.outkick.com/sports/charl...ege-basketball

"This notion that you have to come up with tens of millions of dollars to pay kids to play basketball, and have them be free agents every year and transfer to another school and get more money every year. Like, we don't even get to do that in the NBA. Can you imagine if players in the NBA got to be free agents every year? I'm not opposed to players getting paid, I want to make that clear. But, this notion we gotta give college kids tens of millions of dollars a year, and basketball is the worst because you're only gonna get a great player for six months. I don't even see how you're gonna get the return on investment."

I agree with all of it but he also just gave $60 million to Auburn basketball, some of which is earmarked to pay for players.

That's just Sir Charles playing the game. He just wishes it wasn't so expensive to do so.

I agree with him 100%. Players should absolutely be able to make money off of their likeness and image and even get paid directly by the schools. Unfortunately, because the NCAA fought it for so long and the changes came about because of a court ruling instead of a structured easing in and a program that makes sure things are fair on all sides, it instantly became the wild west.
    WHY IS EVERYONE YELLING?!?

Do you also think Student Research Assistants and Veterinarian Students should get a cut of the Professors earnings for discovering major breakthroughs or treating large and small animals?

How about the athletics trainers and team managers who take an 18 hour schedule while working 40-50 hours a week cleaning cleats, washing uniforms and jock straps and polishing helmets? How much of the players cut should they get? I get it that nobody goes to watch them perform but they play a part in the University's success and reputation! Nobody goes to watch the coaches coach, but they get paid millions more than the professors, tenured or not.

Good point, Cap'n, and well taken. I've said this before and I'll say it again, don't forget the supporting members, such as the Band and Cheerleaders. They contribute just like the trainers. Let's go another step further, what about a kickback to the fans who are there supporting them also? You just have to think like an accountant like me, and balance the scales. I'm serious. Where would the players be without the fans, cheerleaders, and band. Think about it. It's only fair in my opinion.

Should players be paid, ABSOLUTELY! Should it be millions? NO

Well they are all getting 200-500K for 4 years so they are getting something; it ain't nothing.

Just open up pro for those that think they are worth it and let them go; otherwise leave college an amateur sport and stop the stupidity.

When all is said and done, the poor will still be poor, and the rich will be richer.

State owes me money for the misery they've inflicted upon me and my family. All those years of driving hours to watch terrible football. I should sue them. Lol

    Dude...

I was in the drumline in the late 80s (1985-1989), I have the worst FULL* game experiences of anyone on this board, guaranteed...<Justin Wilson accent>

I should be paid too. LOL

*Watched the entire game(s) bc I was in the marching band, could not leave early like most did.

The answer is contracts and making players employees.

This Wild West crap we've got going on now isn't sustainable.

Yes I do. If a chemical engineering student develops something that makes money, they should get a cut of it. Now.... those numbers should be worked out before they are allowed to work on whatever research project they are involved in. Now if the school says no, and pays the student for their time....then accept the job or don't. That is a fine arrangement.

Aren't cheerleaders and band getting scholarships also? Basically saying that a janitor and the top sales rep should be paid the same. Athletes bring more value so they were under paid. If we are valuing the scholarships as payment.

I am not saying athletes payments haven't gone crazy, but they were under paid for a long time and now they are drastically over paid unless you believe in the free market.

No one pays more than they think something is worth. OSU pretty much bought a National Title. LSU bought one in baseball. Ole Miss bought themselves a chance at a playoff game.

He nailed it. This business of unlimited free agency every year has to be stopped. It's made everything a farce. As soon as we or any other smaller school has a player who shows he's good enough, they're getting bought away by richer schools. Look at MVB. Kamario Taylor will be here 2 years max before someone like UGA or Texas tap him up and take him from us. There's no reason to hope we can luck into a once in a generation talent and develop around him like we did with Dak. It's unsustainable.

    This

If Taylor is the real deal- he will get bought away from us for 5-6-7MM when we could pay him 2MM max
