But I do suspect that the roots of the behavior of the weird fans probably started with that program. Because whether you have a rig or not in the LFL knowing players is a status thing in Starkville. Having a rig AND knowing players? Mega Status in Starkville. We have plenty of fans like Maroon Mary that do the same things with players as far as being involved or over involved with MSU athletes.
The overall success of the baseball program only caused the roots to grow.
And you're probably right. I just don't understand how knowing players is a status thing. Like they're regular college kids who happen to play baseball. They still party, they still go to bars, they still do all the things that normal college kids do. They just are on the field playing while they're friends are drinking beer in the outfield.
It's just weird to me tbh. I was in school from 2012-2016 and we knew the players and hung out with them but it wasn't a big deal. They were students like the rest of us and they acted like that. We didn't treat them any differently. It just seems like since about 2018 our players have been put on this pedestal like they're these gods.

You know, I've been going to MSU football games ever since I moved here in '86 and not one has a stanger asked me to eat or drink at their tailgate. Damn selfish tailgates! We should outlaw tailgating at football!

Wear the colors of the opposing team, it'll be a better experience for you.

I'll sum all my thoughts up with this:
I don't care who these people give food to. It's their rig and their spot. I myself would be more likely to start throwing the food at the other team instead of feeding them, so I just don't give them any food. And I'm not saying give food to any Mississippi State fan that comes out there and tell the opposing fans to stick their forks where the sun don't shine. You can still feed the opposing team WHEN WE WIN. What I'm saying is that it's a bad look to get our ass handed to us and then crow on Twitter about how nice and welcoming we were to the other team WHO SWEPT US. It's a lot like a mentality we USED TO make fun of around here. I think it's goes something We Never Lose a Party......apparently that's what we celebrate now. This is why I call it The Grove now. Because it's just that. We care more about the stuff happening off the field than the stuff happening on the field. The Lounge has always been a party but the party paused when the ball is in play. Now the game itself seems like a hindrance to the party.

I think they have been on a pedastal for awhile before you were a student. On the old Genespage there were always a select few defending players to the death.
It's just now with social media and stuff like that our weird fans can take things to the next level like posting pictures with players and stuff like that.
You are right- they're just college kids who can play baseball.

Don't really know about you but there's a few on this board that understand how committed I am to this university. I want it to be the best in everything. I also know that handing out sausages and Miller Lite's to opposing fans doesn't matter. Winning is all that matters. I could less give a 17 whether they spend their money here or in Austin. If that means we scare off some opposing fans from their 3rd plate of smoked sausage then so damn be it. Our programs needs some assholes back in it like Tanner Allen, Jake Mangum, Ethan Small, Konnor Pilkington, Brent Rooker, Nate Lowe, Hunter Renfroe, Adam Frazier, etc. We're soft and it's now extended to the fanbase. Also....how the hell is the best form of promotion of our school promoting they came in swept us and ate like kings while they were doing it?
We won a natty doing all the things that we do in the outfield now. The only difference now is our coaches aren't getting the job done. I agree on the dirt bags. This team with tanner Allen on it takes two out of three this weekend

And you are right in that it does not affect the game whether we win or lose. But man it just sucks to watch the other team sweep you and then the fans feed them a 3 course meal. I do not mind doing it if that is what you always do, but just send it with a manager or something after the game.

I like that our fans feed players, and end of the day these are just guys on the road alot playing baseball.
Also, I don't like to lose and don't like fans caring more about the others liking them.
Both are true for me. It is just way more fun when we win the series and then give them food and wish them well the rest of the year.

You got to remember though that we fed two other teams that we swept this year. And the outfielders absolutely got heckled this weekend. (Reminds me of that time we had the Florida RF girlfriend picture posted above the right field wall lol). I just know that all the baseball parents I bump into out here in Texas think the world of our program because of the common theme they hear about it. And I love the fact that at the end of the day, our hospitality beats anybody's and honestly it's a breath of fresh air in this NIL/portal/fast paced society. Makes me miss home every time I'm there compared to here.

We fed Notre dame that series where we spanked their tales. They will never forget that too. Jaret even admitted the atmosphere was the difference. Everybody agrees that we make college Baseball better.

We've got a better team than we've shown this season. Lemonis played a soft schedule to get wins and is once again losing to good teams. He sat on his fat ass rubs a lot of recruits the wrong way. He's the low bar for State baseball. My left nut could take this team to a regional and that's about all Lemonis can do.

The goalpost didn't move. You just missed the point.

Everyone wants to be a beast...until its time to do what beasts do.

wonder how Lemo will manage the team differently from this past weekend through the next 2 SEC weekends? Who will tell him how?

Think we're still trying to come set how much of this is coaching and how much is a player talent issue.

Our talent isn't elite but it's good, coaching is not good

Coaching is definitely not good with all the stupid things we do. Talent is pretty good. I think offensively we have a lot of potential though some of our best hitters are not good defenders which creates a problem. But the biggest issue is we are still short one or two SEC level starting pitchers. But we were all saying this during portal time and we never reeled one in and nobody understood why? Pruitt was the best starting portal pitcher we got and he is on IR and was never a sure thing. Pico is pretty dependable it seems, but behind that it's pot luck on what kind of start we will get on Sat and Sun. Need some of the FR guys to grow up fast at this point.

What does it matter? Lemo has been here a LONG time and he's responsible for both the talent and the coaching. If the wins ain't coming, get him out

Yeah, either way, it's on Lemonis. He's fortunate that there's a portal bc we would be in rough shape with just his high school evaluations.

I don't want to cyberbully you. But I would keep this take to yourself.
I also can't believe that you have a spot in the outfield yet chose to dress as an opposing fan as some kind of experiment. That's insane.
