The main problem I have with Lebby is his hiring all those defensive clowns. If he doesn?t make changes there, I will have lost all respect for the man.

Call me crazy, but I sort of liked the winning , and knowing each week you are in a game.
Did not matter what offense was run.

Leach only had 3 wins his first year with much more talent.

Let's please not get into another Leach thread. He was good, even great. And he was gone too soon. But he's gone nonetheless. Time to move on.

I am going to say this and done with it.
That was a Covid, SEC only year. You know that.

He needs to let Barnes call the defense from here on out. Barnes has DC experience at Ohio State and Memphis. Turner needs to retire. His style is better suited for the pro game now

I'm sure if the defense takes a turn for the better in October we will hear the rumors that Barnes is calling the defense.

Agreed. Let Barnes call it from here on out, and since Barnes is the Co-DC anyways no one would bat an eye. And we probably need to find a bona fide DC this off season. I would imagine Aranda will be available. Brent Pry could be available. Jeremiah Johnson at La Tech could be a good option. You also could try to pull a Bama and pull a sitting G5 HC. Maybe try to find someone that way. I don't think going the way of a first time playcaller needs to be the path forward though

If we could actually pull Dave Aranda as DC/Asst. Head Coach*, I'd shit myself.
(* Y'all know he wouldn't come here just for DC only.)

The reason we are in this mess is because the staff that was winning wasn’t recruiting worth a damn. We have zero defensive talent because of that staff. Our current defensive staff is not any good, but they had zero to work with anyway.

Yeah, winning and looking half ass organized was more fun.
The last two years are an abomination. Disorganized messes from Arnett and Hutzler this year.
Unfortunately that winning ship sailed with Leach.
Sure, Lebby had to ride with the portal players he had, but the team looks like a mess, especially offensively. And we know it can be solved. There?s enough NIL to beat Toledo, ASU, and even Florida this year.
One thing that Mullen had that Lenny does not is seemingly experienced coaches around him. Cornish sucked but we?d give our left nut for Totbush and the players on that team.

Then we have some saying the offense is more fun to watch at least.
All I see is us getting our face punched in and the QB has 0.3 seconds to throw the ball. I see our runs getting stuffed by freaking Toledo and AZ State. Not to mention we really couldn't run the ball against Eastern KY except for 2 long runs which makes it look better.
Give me the Air Raid methodical drives all day long if that means we're winning, but we're long past the Air Raid now. Who cares if the QB can sling the ball 50 yards down the field. Did the receiver catch the ball? Nope, now we're 2nd down and 10. Let's run the ball for 2 yards. Now we're 3rd and 8 and don't get it cause we can't run the ball 8 yards or the QB gets sacked. With the Air Raid we were pretty good at 3rd down conversions.
I see where Lebby's offense can work if he has players, but I also see us play very undisciplined football with very bad OL and DL play. We don't look anywhere close to a SEC football team right now and quite frankly might be one of the worst in all of FBS. Is it coaches, players, or both?
It seems at MSU it's the death to all offensive schemes. It doesn't matter what we run it never seems to work here.
I think we focus on OL and DL play then the offense will follow.

We scored 28 points and had 480 yards of offense Saturday

It's a new era. Coaches don't get "time" anymore, and they shouldn't get it. There are lots of examples of teams reinventing themselves in one offseason through the portal, and Lebby better do that this winter.
Not all 4 and 8 records are the same. Depends on how competitive we are and if we are getting better. Mullen first year 5-7 was way better than on paper.
We will likely have a lot of new players next year too. This year was going to be horrible no matter what so Selmon will take that into account. He gets at minimum 3 but probably 4 years.

Leach was a good coach with a quirky offense that gave less talented players a better chance of beating more talented teams.
Leach air raid is an absolutely boring brand of football that took a lot of enjoyment out of watch
It sucks that he died because he was one of a kind and it left our program in bad shape.
All three can be true.

All I was saying is it took Leech some time too. We can't keep firing coaches. Let it play out a little longer. Saban couldn't fix this mess year one.
