But the question is with Odom how much better would we really be? Yes the defense would be better but if the offense is worse then it's probably a zero sum gain.
Plus Odom is the kind of guy that if Lebby doesn't work we can probably get him in three years if we wanted to.

Maybe. But, Odom is an experienced head coach. That counts for a lot right now. His offense at UNLV seems to be doing okay.

I find it odd some are calling to fire Selmon. John Cohen and Mike Leach and Zach Arnett created this problem, with massive help from the top guy and boosters. The resources were withheld and the recruiting was nonexistent. The money was thrown at a club sport at the expense of our paycheck producing sport. Bunch of dumbasses at State that still need to be purged too. A couple have seen the light though.

Lebby was the choice by Selmon from the jump. We didnt consider anybody else. Any other interviews were for show

That's what I figured. There's no reason we couldn't have hired a top tier G5 coach. He may have only been here four or five years tops but he would have built something we could pass on.

Wouldn't matter with the problems we have/had. There was no great option at the G5 level. A retread and a couple guys with the same current record as Lebby? I'll pass.
Lebby isn't going anywhere for at least three more years, so sit back and support the rebuild because it's going to take a minute.

Everyone on our FB staff is an unknown , failure at a previous stop ( see OL coach run off from Ark), new to his position (HC and DC) , needs to retire (DL coach) and even an on the job training AD. What could possibly go wrong this year?*** We learned nothing from last year in putting together this staff and team.

We've had head scratching coaching searches the past several years. I seem to recall one year we could've had Kyle Whittingham. I can't remember what year that was but you've gotta really wonder if the people pulling strings in the hiring dept really care about winning.

The cowbell debacle is a huge embarrassment. That shows a complete lack of planning. Having a former NFL lineman rocking something back and forth without anything to prevent it from falling over is beyond stupid.

Just completed my online game day experience survey & it was about a 1.5 out of 5 and that didn't include the 0.00 rating for the below Vandy product on the field, poor coaching and lack of SEC level talent! We don't seem to be sweating many details from the top down at this point. Where is Charles Shira when we need him?***

I think Cohen deserves some blame for a lot of issues. To be clear, I'm glad he is gone. BUT what I saw Saturday night had nothing to do with Cohen. A Head coach that seemed lost and confused. Assistant coaches that he hired that clearly can't coach or don't care and a 90% miss rate on the players we evaluated in the portal.
Now, if we are giving more resources to football now that Selmon is here that's fantastic. But as stated in the original post what is the evidence for that? I honestly have no idea.

I wish more of our fans would start asking tough questions. My response: we have taken the lazy way out since Dan left. Always making the easy decision and not wanting to spend time and $ on finding the best coach.

I saw a coach without players on either side outside of WR and maybe QB & Isaac Smith. I think he screwed the pooch with his defensive staff but the biggest problem there might be the guy State people pushed on him. He's got to find a DC and better staff.
That OL is pitiful. Bunch of weak G5 guys. Also think it takes time to get your system in place and said before the season I just hoped it would click by mid year. We all thought the OL would be solid and we were wrong. RB position is like three blind mice too and I'm not even getting into defense because we said before the season is was a dumpster fire. Hard to blame Lebby 3 games in. He's go to get the players and then we'll see.

First off, things can change after this year such as recruiting and portal players. Lebby probably has made mistakes with coaches and players. Good Coaches learn quickly with mistakes. Way too early to know how things will or will not get straighten out.
We all knew or thought this wasn't gonna be a good year, in saying that I'm pretty sure it's worse than we thought.
Also no way do I think we get kicked out of the Sec. we have shown we can be ok and competitive.

Yeah, I thought we would be bad. I didn't think it would be this bad..like BAD, BAD.

Yeah, I thought maybe 6-6 if we were lucky but probably 5-7 because of the defense. Man, we are horrible. This is Jackie's last year bad.

So to answer the original question: No. It's not even close to time to have the discussion of do you need to fire Selmon. He has done incredible with what he was provided, which was a bloated athletic dept with a bunch of lifelong staffers just collecting a check. He took a year to observe the dept and then started handing out pink slips and bringing in his people. That's what has happened with the hires of Joe Bailey, Tom Greene, Josh McCowan, and Terry Prentice. He has brought in more people but those were the main ones. I don't think some of y'all realize how bad it was under Cohen. Selmon has had to completely rebuild that dept basically from the ground up. I think he kept like one main person, Bo Hemphill, and he has really kept him on the outside.
Now on to his handling of coaches, we interviewed more than just Lebby. I know that for a fact. The Chadwell stuff was overblown because he was never coming here with that buyout. Odom did want the job, but I know there was hesitation of how much of his UNLV success was Barry and how much of it was the OC Brendan Marrion. The thought was that UNLV would just promote Marrion to HC and then we would be left with Barry trying to find an OC, which was a 50/50 shot. On Kinne, he lobbied hard for the job but he had been a FBS HC for one year and zero years outside the state of Texas. A lot of people believe when McGuire is let go at TTU or Arranda at Baylor that Kinne would crawl on broken glass to have a P4 Texas HC job. Same as Jeff Traylor. Lebby wanted the job, presented a comprehensive plan for how he woud BUILD AND MAINTAIN us, what he learned from Kiffin, etc. We bought the plan.
On facilities, I mean he's trying to get us up to snuff on that. Unfortunately when all your funds were put towards baseball and the sports that don't turn a profit , it's a bit difficult to get some of that back. So we've had to push MUCH NEEDED projects. Selmon is still pissed about The Hump "renovation" Cohen greenlit. The House Settlement has also thrown a wrench into things because if the Universities have to start funding NIL that is 15-20 mil PER YEAR MINIMUM that will need to go towards that.
Bottom Line: Is Selmon perfect? No and he'd tell you that. But I can promise you he is working his ass off to get us going again. Hell his work with Charlie and the NIL stuff is incredible. He's really helped build that up.
