disagree. We had no buy-in by the QB and WR's and that made it look worse than it was. Our WR's didnt block a soul- capping it off in the Egg Bowl when Tulu got our RB hurt so bad he cant even return this season. Stupid penalties by the other WR that is now at LSU. We'll see how he turns out there. Very interested to see how Houston looks this season.

Coaching decisions last year where as bad as bad can be. Terrible staff, in fact one of the worse staffs in my lifetime. We did lack talent at some positions, but we were poorly prepared and were so poor fundamentally with mistakes. Ain't no sugar coating this. I blame our staff not the players for the most part.

When the players dont buy in- everything turns to shit. It was bad all around. Players lack of effort and care makes coaching look alot worse than it really is. Thats why guys are running wrong routes or not blocking who they are supposed to at times. Or guys get thrown out on the base paths
Case in point- I called a zone right running play last season. 4 of the 5 guys blocked it perfectly and it would have hit for a 15-20 yard gain had the 5th guy blocked it the way it was supposed to. He didnt- he went left to block the DE who was wide instead of coming down on the LB. When asked why he blocked left instead of right like the play was supposed to be blocked????? "That DE called me a bitch ass Coach. I cant let him disrespect me like that"
My HS OL looked poorly coached because of things like that all season. But it wasnt coaching. It was the players being selfish and doing their own things instead. That's what I saw with State's offense last season.

Who's at fault when the players aren't buying in? Is it the players or the coaches fault? Now if it's just a selfish player here or there that wants to do their own thing that's on them but we're talking about nearly all, if not all, of the team last year looked and played like they didn't care. That's ultimately on Arnett's shoulders for not being the leader he was hired to be.

No doubt that it's ultimately on Arnette. But at the same time there is only so much that a coach can do. What I saw was a team with no buy-in then a situation that got worse and worse. Arnette obviously didnt handle things very well when it starting getting bad. But if you couldnt see that the QB and WR's were not on board then you arent very observant. We were faced with the prospect of riding it out and letting Arnette re-do the roster or cutting bait to go another direction. Things had gotten pretty bad so we cut bait and I have no problem with it. Lebby has come in and rebuilt the roster after losing lots of Sr's then running off some of the problems leftover from the previous season. A new start.
Looking forward to seeing our new offense and SEC football every weekend

From the sounds of it we had a weak HC that was taken advantage of by some of the coaches he hired, Barbay and Friend being a couple of them. Can you blame the QB for not being with it when he was lied to?
Regardless at least all that is behind and we have a fresh start. I hope Lebby does well.

Thats a flat out lie haha and tulu was always an issue regardless of who the coach was. Remember it was Leach and wills fault we couldn?t get him the ball.
Then when it?s BP and the yacht club its on Tulu? Lol you have so many feet in your mouth I bet you can taste the fungus

Well when your head coach lies and brings in a snake, you get bit. Ask bookie Watson what happened after the Kentucky game and you will get all you need to know about arnett and the yacht club.
It was the worst coaching job in the history of MS State university

I find it hard to believe, not being a coach and in the sports profession, that a really good defensive Coordinator can be such a crappy head coach. Something to me is NOT adding up here. I thought our 1st 2 games last year were OK - we won them, but something happened for the 3rd game against LSU and after. Arnett looked different, his demeanor, changed and his reaction to players and situations on the field were totally NOT him as we became used to when he was the DC.
What happened? This seems so weird to me!

If he stays with the Leach system, my guess is that he is still the coach at MSU.

You nailed it. You can't lie to your players and then expect them to buy in. Hard to respect a liar.

Ah yes. All we had to do was "Feed Tulu" and everything would be better. Remember fans that wanted Tulu to play running back? That would have been a disaster. Ironically, it looks like Leach had him in the right spot the entire time.

It wasn't just the offense that wasn't "bought in".

Truth is Arnett was an average at best DC who due to a tragedy was given a job he was completely unqualified for who was given a complete pass by our fans for years who blamed the offense on everything that went wrong. Arnett's dumb play calling cost us a a win in Athens in 2020. And his defense pissed away leads against Auburn in 2022 and Kentucky. We were literally being run by a high school coach by the time we were playing Texas A&M. Let's be honest- if we had a traditional coaching search Arnett would have maybe gotten an interview and that's as far as it would have gotten. His next job after MSU should have either been as DC at a blue blood or a HC at a G5 school like San Jose State where he could learn how to coach. He probably would have failed as a head coach wherever he went and probably would have been a forever DC.

Im curious to see how Barbay does at UH, unless Willie Fritz is running the offense.

Which goes against everything Will's Daddy Bucky keeps posting. If you didnt like the guy- you wouldnt go work for him. I turned down a GA position for that exact reason

Fritz didnt run Tulane's- he gave the OC the outline of what he wanted to see.
Fritz didnt hire Barbay without knowing what he liked to run, what he is capable of running, and what his offensive philosophy was. Fritz had access to film of every game we played last year- and hired Barbay. That tells me alot. Fritz has been a very successful coach and grabbed up Barbay quickly.
State fans need to realize that sometime- "its really is you- not me"

And this is exactly why I want to see how Barbay does at UH. I think he had a lot of undeserved criticism. I liked his App State offense.
