Way different leagues too and Hines was still a better hitter overall. This kid has one year old D1 ball after and underwhelming Juco career. I can't see it at all. And this is the third corner player we've signed. Aren we going to address other issues? Probably not very well. We're pinning hopes that a power hitter gets walks now.

No idea. I've seen rumors of him and a couple others but Haire going to OSU might change things there. I trust Parker, but we need some pitching and so far it's kinda been crickets. Only two teams left playing so the portal is about what it's going to be at this point. It's safe to say kids aren't jumping in the boat very fast.

We've seriously reached the point in portal recruiting that we are supposed to be pumped over a .239 hitter coming in from a lower league school? Sorry, if we really are competitive in NIL I don't get why we aren't doing better given we have so much playing time to offer at a high end baseball school in the SEC.

Better be a walk on. That said, we have Brett Pirtle in the past with a 220 JUCU career batting average, then BP flourished to great highs at MSU. Pirtle was 2nd Team all SEC and a huge contributor to 2013.

So I am looking for a miracle to repeat itself.

Stahlman had a wrist injury he was dealing with last year that is past him now. The back part of the season he hit .310 and hit most of his home runs.

I think this guy could be a steal for us.

It adds up because he has a really good K/BB ratio and usually guys with those two things going on tend to hit at least decently.

Go to Starkville on a Tuesday night in the summer. Then go to Knoxville, Fayetteville, Athens, Lexington, Baton Rouge, etc and it is easy to figure out why we are losing these recruiting battles. It is not Lemonis, NIL, Gautreau, or anything of the sort. It is the fact that we are located in a small town in Mississippi that without students is not a very exciting town. And unfortunately all these recruiting visits are taking place during the summer when no students, or very few, are on campus.

That?s a given for a college athlete.

But?..with Cohen we had a vibe and an identity. We were tough. I don?t feel like we have had that since 2021. In fact, I know we haven?t.

I don?t want to fire Lemonis though. Baseball isn?t the same as the other big 2. It?s more chess on a field.
