Interesting the best lineup according to Moneyball type App is:
1. Mershon
2. DJ
3. Chance
4. Hujsak
5. Joe Powell
6. Kohler
7. Larry
8. Hines
9. Downs
This lineup is projected to score 6.555 runs per game.
My lineup is projected to score 6.54 runs per game, ha.
No it's not, solid lineup management never is old or outdated. You can't have a 2 hole consistently striking out. Won't work long term. A computer model vs real world experience, ha.
And if we're talking about 80-90s management. I guarantee you I could take a bunch of line drive hitters that don't strike out a lot, can handle the bat( hit and run, bunt, etc), get on base a lot and can run and run teams right off the field. Reason pitchers can't hold runners, speed puts pressure on defenses and increases misplays, and pitchers rely so much on k's now, you'd drive them crazy with a bunch of line drive contact hitters that don't strike out. Everything in baseball cycles and eventually this type of offense will come back.

I think everyone agrees that line drives are great. Never heard anyone say differently. LOL.
You are talking about bunting with the 2 hole and that is really dated thinking. It's bad baseball honestly. Love you though.

No you misunderstand on the bunting. I hate bunting but sometimes it's needed and you have to have someone that can get one down. Now if you have a bunch of guys that can run bunting is a huge weapon. I never called a bunt accept in rare occasions. That's why sometimes I hate trying to talk on here because it's hard to get your point across in text form. I'm a talker lol. We would get along because I really appreciate your takes especially in basketball because I only know enough to be dangerous there lol

You really know baseball. I enjoy your posts. I just think you're a little dated in your 2 hole thinking. Look at MLB lineups. Seager, Pete Alonso, Soto, Vlad, Bobby Witt, Jrod, etc all hit 2 hole.

Thank you I appreciate that. Let me posit this to you. These people you mentioned strikeout 150+ times a year they do have power. Now put a guy in the 2 hole that strike out 60-70 times a year has a high obp and can handle the bat. You don't think you can generate as many runs that way? That's 80-100 more balls in play with more walks and more versatility. Baseball thinking is never dated because it ALWAYS comes back around. It's the most cyclical game there is and in 10 years when you're watching hitters that concentrate more on contact you'll see. Every 10-20 years baseball cycles.
Remember in baseball there's more than one philosophy that can be successful . Really good discussion here though. I enjoy these baseball discussions

Thanks man! I certainly don't have all the answers and the great thing about baseball is many different philosophies can be successful if executed correctly. I've been fortunate to play for, play with, coach and be around many very astute baseball people and I've learned from them and used what I've learned to be successful teaching and coaching it. Just love the game and the discussions of the game.

Well you are dang good at it. Another reason this site has to be the best message board for collegiate baseball of any similar school affiliated board, by far. Lots of knowledge around here.
