Batting order in Regional
Should be:
1. Mershon, .335/443
2. Jordan, .339/452
3. Hujsak, .350/441
4. Hines, .245/333
5. Chance, .281/373
6. Larry, .257/400
7. Kohler, .242/354
8. Powell, .289/367
9. Downs, .288/387
- best 3 hitters get the most ABs
- Hines sandwiched between 2 guys that don't K
- Downs is healthy. Gives you a guy at the bottom that can get on base
- clearly our best 9 bats

Great lineup for offense, but the problem with this is defense. Larry is a liability at 2B, and if he's DH, where would you put Chance and Downs?

Larry is fine at 2B. You make a change there late if needed. We need runs and defense isn't a significant fall off there to warrant putting a dead out in the starting lineup. Especially when Long is playing.

Liability is too strong a word for Larry. He's not a plus defender but he's good enough. He also seems to hit better when he's playing the field. As Cooter said, you could insert Cupp late if needed.

Larry would be fine at 2B. He had a bad game against UT, but if you DH him then you either have to put Pulliam at 2B or put Chester at 2B. Then you'd have to take out Downs, which isn't the worst thing. He's a K machine and we already have 3 of those in the lineup with Jordan, Hines, and Kohler.

We've been subbing Chester in

Cupp had been hurt. I think he's slightly better if he's on the 27 man roster. But yeah, Chester or Cupp if needed. What we don't need is Larry at 2B with Pulliam at DH like we inexplicably had in the SECT.

Agreed and the book is now out on Pulliam. He hits the breaking ball like Jordan.

9. Catcher

That's ok. My lineup is better because I have separated DJ and Hines in the order. Also, this isn't 1995. In the modern era, you put your best hitter in the 2 hole and despite his recent struggles and K rate, that is still DJ. Trout has the 6th best OBP in my order..that's not 2 hole.

Jordan got a hit and 2 RBI his last plate appearance so hopefully that gave him his confidence back heading into regional

It's ok to disagree.
I like a 2 hole that doesnt K. That's Trout. He is going to put the ball in play. Gives us a Run-N-Hit option there also after Dirtbag steals 2nd. Also- Dirtbag on base opens some holes for him to help.
Jordan/Hines at the plate will determine how far we go. Either they get it done or they dont.

That's valid. I disagree, but at least there is some rationale. DJ has 77 K's and Hines has 73 so I don't like them back to back. I like giving DJ protection with Hujsak too. Chance doesn't need protection-teams pitch to him. But at least we agree that Powell and Long can't be in the lineup together.

Hunter's Dad should have been hitting 5th behind Clark and Palmeiro but chose to go to MC to stay in Jackson.

Hines (but not sure why)
Larry
Chance
Kohler
Powell
Downs

I agree. 2 hole needs to be a guy that can handle the bat, not k, bunt, hit and run, etc. Dakota is the opposite of a 2 hole hitter. More fit to hit cleanup with his power but high k rate.
We've gotta separate Hines and Jordan, 2 ks back to back has killed us a lot this year

I sure hope they both or at least one gets hot, May be too far in their heads now. Time off would or may have helped. Hit the ball where it's pitched and choke up.

Any model you use has DJ as 2 hole. Your definition of 2 hole is more like 80's-90's style of managing.
Interesting the best lineup according to Moneyball type App is:
1. Mershon
2. DJ
3. Chance
4. Hujsak
5. Joe Powell
6. Kohler
7. Larry
8. Hines
9. Downs
This lineup is projected to score 6.555 runs per game.
My lineup is projected to score 6.54 runs per game, ha.
