I actually like that idea

I do too. And people could post "inside info" (to the extent they really have it), stuff that probably shouldn't be out there for the whole world to read. I don't think we'll see Ole Miss trolls signing up to read, but if they want to fund our program to do it, fair enough.

We said what? We need 10-15 million?
If Dak, Elgton Jenkins, Cross, Chris Jones, Simmons, Sweat, and Slay donate 1 million apiece that's 7 million right there. They could probably negotiate that into their contract and let NFL teams fund it.
Add in all of the other good ideas and we're on our way!
Good luck w that....

I will be the old fart acting like a stick in the mud. I’m putting my kids through college without student debt. There are expectations for grades, behavior, etc. I will hold them accountable and chew some ass if necessary. If I’m paying, certain standards will be met.
Now I’m expected to pay for some players to have extra money in addition to their scholarship. But they get a DUI like a dumbass (Bookie Watson), behave like a dumbass on the field (Page last night), smoke pot (at least half of them), misbehave in class (several of them), act like idiots on campus and in the community (many of them), and don’t always make the grades expected. And I’m not allowed to administer the much needed butt chewing to the ones I’m funding. No thanks. It’s the principle of it.
Now fire away.

These players perform a service that most people can't, a service that generates profits for their employers. They deserve a fair piece of that.
On the flip side, NIL is a mess, full of fake endorsements that don't represent players' true market value, and that needs to get fixed. I would prefer just a straight up salary with caps and revenue sharing. But players do deserve to get paid, and it's better than the previous system where they couldn't.

Then let their employer pay them and send them a 1099 or W-2. I’m not their employer. I didn’t get a chance to interview them for a job and set the expectations.

Well yeah, obviously it's fine that they would have to pay taxes. Does anyone who supports paying players ever say that it should be tax-free?

I know we have some legal experts on this board. So my questions are simply this?how does the IRS view the NIL for the receiptients, and what does that look like? There has to be some loopholes, bc no one can afford to donate w/o some type of tax break. Smart business people are not going to donate small/large amounts w/o some type of credit?..not in this fuked up economy.
You tithe to your religious organization, and it?s tax right off. JWS used preachers to run money directly to recruits. It?s a reasonable question with serious consequences.

This past February they payout was $49.9 million to each team. It is expected to hit upwards of $100 million in the new contract that starts in 2024.
"After dealing with Ole Miss for over a year," he said, "I've learned to expect their leadership to do and say things that the leadership at other Division I schools would never consider doing and to justify their actions by reminding themselves that "We're Ole Miss.""

Seriously? So it's going to double? I guess I haven't followed it closely.
