Maybe I'm wrong, but I seem to remember reading several articles and an interview with Byrne at the time all saying that Croom was open to changing OC, but that he wanted to keep the West Coast Offense as the scheme. Talk was Croom wanted to bring in Al Borges. But Byrne pressed for wholesale changes on offense, which Croom refused to do. That said, it was irrelevant after the EB embarrassment. No way Croom could be retained after that.

Yeah I said OC but it should have been the offense. I misstated that.

The ultimate decision on Croom was made after the Egg Bowl disaster. Prior to that, the administration was bringing him back.
