The Good From The Weekend: Amani Larry, Luke Hancock Hitting, Luke Hancock Playing 1st, Colton Ledbetter, Cjintje, Loftin, Gartman, Cade, Dohm, Hardin, Kellum Clark's Sunday, Ross Highfill Catching.

The Bad From The Weekend: KC Hunt, Hunter Hines, Lane Forsythe at the plate, Colby Holcombe after the missed 3rd strike, Not Holding Runners on Saturday, Kellum Clark's Friday and Saturday

The Ugly From The Weekend: Luke Hancock Catching, Parker Stinnett, Lane Forsythe Fielding, Slate Alford Fielding, Kellum Clark's sliding, Innings 3-9 Saturday, Foxhall's Pitch calls.

Definitely some things to work on and definitely some things that are concerning. I think the fielding will work itself out so just like our thoughts going into the weekend we still are uncertain about our pitching.

Hancock was fine behind the plate - his pitchers cost us the steals. And apparently you didn't see Forsyth making tough plays look routine today - he's a stud SS and anyone who thinks different is overreacting. Also, Fox pitch calls were good today as they were all weekend had guys just freakin thrown strikes.

You can add to the bad the fact that you wanted to sit Clark today 😂

Thank you Coach. Nice to know you're on the board. If you could let Mershon get a look on Tuesday or Wednesday that'd be great. Also, please don't wear the white hats with the black jerseys. Not one of our better looks.

That's all we ask. Just consideration.

You left out Nixion closing on Sun. He was nasty on fast balls and breaking balls. All 3 strikeouts and got screwed on call on that walk. Nixion looked every bit the part of our top closer.

Nixon was outstanding, his stuff was absolutely dominate. 2 plus pitches(fb, breaking ball) that are filthy.

No doubt. Wonder if he's a guy that can stretch to two innings or if he's just a one inning guy.

He's probably a six outs max type of guy. And you're probably stretching it to get to 6. Going back to Texas, in 2021 he pitched 34 innings with 27 app. And he was 30 innings in 26 app last year. So he's probably more comfortable in that one inning role but we might could stretch him to two if we ever were in a jam.

People seem to forget these dudes have all been starters and multi inning throwers since they were 10 years old. Dudes only going 1 inning is ridiculous unless it is based on them losing all command or ?stuff? and I have my doubts at that.

We jump out with 8 runs in the 1st, up 10-1 in the 2nd and KC totally loses command with 4 straight BBs but still seemed like a great spot to give Stinnett a chance to be a leading contributor by putting the fire out... except he didn't (or couldn't).

Other elements adding to the sh!tshow was (1) the home plate ump not helping with his strikezone the size of a postage stamp while not giving any outside pitches (hence all of the walks). Plus, (2) Luke not being able to keep runners from advancing into scoring position by stealing at will further alienated the situation.

Even Dohm pitched well enough to silence their bats until the error, which was on a ball hit in an unlucky spot that was gonna make the play tough anyway. I think Saturday, overall, was just more BAD misfortune than good.

Not making excuses as I hate we lost, but I still think we have the pitchers to make a run back into the top-25 (although we probably don't have a Friday night ace).
A season gets a crazy meltdown, this is fair. That seems to happen every year, even good years.

But Foxy has just used up his 2023 meltdown in game-2, versus a Division-2 team in DNF.

Another good point you make was the strike zone. Our hitters stopped working the zone. After 1 inning. VMI only walked 2 in the remaining 8 innings and only K'ed one. So, it seems MSU started swinging at their pitches and stopped being selective. Even as the Ump stayed selective.
