I haven't got to watch much this weekend but saw the last 3 today.

Nixion looked like one of our closers. mid upper 90s, filthy breaking ball. Good control. Strikes out 3 to end the game.

One thing we all should have learned in 21, lets see how pitching develops or shows up. Bednar started slow in 21 and Fristoe was a starter early season as was Cerantola. We can't blunder it though like game 2 too many times.

Our two Freshman and Nixon looked really good today. Gartman is going to be a solid starter for us, kind of like Preston. He is going to fill the zone, get some Ks, give up some hits, and probably give up some HRs. But we will not walk many.

We'll prolly start Pico on Tuesday but reviewing this weekend, it looks like roles seem to be:

    SP1 - Cade Smith
SP2 - Landon Gartman (but he'll prolly stay on Sundays)
SP3 - hopefully Pico Kohn (expect to see him Tuesday night)

    mix-n-match:
    LHP - Lo Cijentje
    LHP - Bradley Loftin
    LHP - Graham Yntema
    LHP - Tyler Davis
    RHP - Logan Forsythe

    S/U - Tyson Hardin
    S/U - Nate Dohm
    Cl - Aaron Nixon

All of the above showed positive contributions and I still am cautiously optimistic we can ride with these guys. But those leaving me wondering are KC Hunt, Stinnett & Colby Holcombe... I mean like WTF???

I hope this is a joke.

This is worse than terrible, it's sad and dumb

I wish they?d ran our freshman ?dual threat??pitcher back out to start the 7th?and let him throw from left side.
No one could say we?d be potentially hurting his arm early in the season as it would have been his other arm!

Thinking back on it and having cooled off a bit, the way Saturday unfolded was a WEIRD game. We jump out with 8 runs in the 1st, up 10-1 in the 2nd and KC totally loses command with 4 straight BBs but still seemed like a great spot to give Stinnett a chance to be a leading contributor by putting the fire out... except he didn't (or couldn't).

Other elements adding to the sh!tshow was (1) the home plate ump not helping with his strikezone the size of a postage stamp while not giving any outside pitches (hence all of the walks). Plus, (2) Luke not being able to keep runners from advancing into scoring position by stealing at will further alienated the situation.

Even Dohm pitched well enough to silence their bats until the error, which was on a ball hit in an unlucky spot that was gonna make the play tough anyway. I think Saturday, overall, was just more BAD misfortune than good.

Not making excuses as I hate we lost, but I still think we have the pitchers to make a run back into the top-25 (although we probably don't have a Friday night ace).

Lemonis said in postgame that he slept on his left arm wrong and they did not want to risk him throwing Lh today.

We are going to need a long relief guy. No clue who that will be but we are going to have to find a guy or two we could hand the ball to in the 4th on a Friday and tell him he has to go 4 innings

Watching Lo and Loftin control the mound this afternoon gave me chills... hopefully these guys can continue to impress as we step up in competition level.

There was more to just Luke not being able to control their running game. I?m not sure a pitcher threw over more than once their entire inning plus in the game.

They are both Uber talented. But they both are going to have fr moments until they get better command. Both have been lacking that. But once it clicks it's gonna be fun.

They were getting running leads from second. Don't care who was catching.

Pitching looked solid today and gives me hope that we have some talent to figure some things out.

I really like some of the energy these new guys are bringing - Larry, Jordan, Highfil, etc. I saw glimpes of a Bulldog chip and I like it.

We have some pieces if we can get the older guys to do like they have in the past. Hancock, Clark and Forsythe played major roles in NC. With new players, this team can be good.

This, our pitchers weren't even slowing them down. One look and then to the plate and they had us timed. No slide steps no varying of deliveries and slow to the plate is a recipe for disaster. Luke doesn't have lotans arm but his pop time is good enough to give him a chance if our pitchers give him that chance.
