Is Schilling just being kept out because of his politics? I'd have thought he'd be a sure fire HOFer, but that's just based on what I remember of his playoff performances as a casual fan. Seemed like he was the most dominant pitcher for a few years. Did he just peak in a couple of post seasons? Or was the rest of his career not good? Or are sports writers just as idiotic and blinded by partisanship as the normal press?
ETA: Guess I should have read back one page before posting. But still hasn't answered the question of whether there is any legitimate argument that he shouldn't be in the HOF.
Personally, I always saw Schilling as a good not great pitcher. He had three dominant season - which I would suspect were enhanced as pitchers tend not to get better at 34. The one thing he had going for him is that he was money in the post season.
Frankly, if Dale Murphy can't get in, Schilling shouldn't either.
