Howland could easily become the best men's basketball coach we've ever had in the next 5 years. But to put him in the top three today is ludicrous. The man has not even won a game in the big dance. Let's revisit this after he wins the west, wins an SEC Championship, wins the sec tournament championship, or makes it to a final four. None of which he has done yet.

There is no more East/West

The statement was one of the top 3 coaches we have ever had.. the way i took that is what he has done here plus his overall resume not just what he has done here
I based my ranking on what he did prior to getting here and what he has done here ..

Fair enough - I will agree with you on that. He's far and away number one in that case and I hope he continues to prove himself here.

For that reason, I have quit following as much because I got burned out at the end of the Stansbury error over the same issues (went to all home games). With that said, I am back on board to support this team as long as they continue to play with effort, regardless of Wins/losses.
Man I just don't know how much more effort you want. We were down by 16 in the first half and cut it to 10 by halftime. They led by that much because shot over 50% from 3 in the first half. We battled back and won the game in convincing fashion.

It’s silly.
If you read some of the posts here You would think that every other college men’s hoops team
Plays 40 minutes with 100% effort
Commit zero turnovers
Shoot 70% from the field
Score 80+ a game
Hold opponents to under 60 a game
Get every rebound
Get every loose ball
Here is what everyone needs to do when watch men’s hoops , not just MSU hoops all college hoops,
Remember it’s not college football
It not men’s hoops from the the 90’s or 2000’s
And it’s 110% different than the women’s game
Keep those 3 things in mind and the games will be much more enjoyable. And if you don’t like the mens game don’t watch it.

Getting out coached ?
Please explain ...
And besides the La Tech and New Mexico State game there hasn?t been a team we have lost to where we had superior talent and in some comes less over all talent

Ari, I just feel like we have no plan on offense a lot of the time and then our defensive strategy leaves the three ball wide open. I do feel like this team is really talented though, so I'm setting a bar that I will give Howland the credit for setting since he brought in the talent. Sometimes our body language is awful though and i just can not stand to watch it - it was worse last year and the year before though. I do agree with you that this is not the same game that we watched in the 90's and thats part of the reason I don't like as much, but you have to agree the Howland has some things that he could easily improve on from and X's and O's standpoint.

Our offensive plan is get the ball to Reggie. Now, I do tend to agree with you on the D. We do tend to leave 3 point shooters open far too often, but I felt like our second half D on Tuesday was the best we've defending we've done this year.

So does every other coach in the college game. I’m sure UVA fans wish the Cavs could score more points.. his coaching philosophy seemed to pay off last year pretty good.
I said it couple of years ago the one thing I wish CBH would do would be hire an ex head coach to the staff.
There are things even Vic needs to improve on
But the heat CBH gets and this team gets from our fan base is absurd..
Getting frustrated is fine , but some of the fans going full blown ignorance is another.

It's not full blown ignorance. People get on here and bitch about the lack of support they get. People respond "Well here is why: it's not enjoyable and the team doesn't play hard and inspire the crowd with their effort." Then you decide to rebut with stats and say that we should get over it.
Newsflash: I support it. I watch it. It's my school. It does not keep me from supporting. But when you wonder why people aren't supporting, that's the reason why. It comes down to the fact that it's not that entertaining for a lot of people. We're Mississippi State. We pride ourselves on being the underdog who outworks everyone. That's what our fans identify with. The women's team has that mentality. The men's team doesn't. This makes the women's team a more entertaining product for our fans than our men's REGARDLESS OF RECORD. The men's team was a 5 seed last year ffs. But a majority of the fan base had 0 confidence we'd make it out of the first weekend. They didn't play with the fire that we like to see from MSU teams even if they were successful. See: Lack of football fan support circa 2019 (Egg Bowl win and Bowl game is above average for us historically).
Coupled with what 34 mentioned either in this thread or the other about TV broadcasting everything, it becomes clear why there is a distinct lack of stadium support. It's A. Not a product MSU fans identify with, B. Easily watchable on TV rather than putting in effort to go ("they don't put in the effort on the court why should I put it in off the court?"), and C. the game itself has become a worse product overtime in general. I personally don't watch regular season games that don't involve MSU anymore. It's worse than what people complain about the NBA with the ISO-Ball. The AAU coaching at the young age has got to get better or this product will continually get worse.

I also think the fact we have a women?s team that is as good as they are also hurts attendance with the men. In order for the Hump to be what it was and needs to be we need those local Starkville fans to go to the games and I just don?t think they go as much as they did. The Starkville fans that used to be the backbone of support under Stansbury migrated to the women?s team when A) the seating situation under the Ninja happened and B) the hiring of Rick Ray and the bottoming out of our program coupled with the rise of the women. The TV situation did not hurt the women?s attendance. If they want the Hump to be packed again, do something to bring back the Starkville fans.

The “team doesn’t play hard “ is such bullshit.. it’s old and played out
So because we were a 5 seed last year and lost in round one that effects this year ?
The women’s game is far more exciting ? That’s pure opinion. If you like the womens game better than the men’s thats fine.
All the excuses back a few years ago was just win and we will come back. Now the excuse is we don’t play hard or it’s not fun to watch .. maybe we should be the globetrotters to make it more fun..
I get it with the SEC Tv and fans don’t want to drive over 2 hours on a Tuesday night when tip is at 7. But I wonder what the excuses will be tomorrow afternoon with a 1pm tip-off..
It’s just embarrassing when state fans , coaches and players have to ask and encourage fans to show up and support this team that’s playing really good ball right now and battling for tourney bid .
Yet these same fans are the first ones to pile on and run to Twitter or message boards to bitch and complain with every loss.
And yes the game has changed , but it’s far from a bad product.

The women’s crowd and the men’s season ticket holders are vastly different .
Rick Ray has been gone for 5 years now .. it’s time to get over that
I do agree the Hump needs a face lift.. its 2020 not 2000... needs some type of suite or box seats .. and with the students and their seating. It could for sure be changed . But they need to show up regardless

thanks Ari-for saying what needs to be said.. Some of our fans would not even like kentucky. Always mully-grubbing. Enjoy this team--it might be the best one since 96. I expect them to make a serious run.
