I think people overestimate what an LB can do. LBs are supposed to be the ones covering the flat, and they're supposed to fill gaps in run D. Basically, they're supposed to be unblocked or space fillers along the DL.
If your DL sucks ass, then OLs can get a hat on the LB and everyone goes "Oh man the LB got blown up". 95% of LBs will get blown up vs an OL, they're 50 lbs lighter.
Being a good LB is about quick reaction time and aggressive tackling. They aren't supposed to get off OL blocks, and if the DL gets shoved out of the way that's exactly what will happen
