You aren't supposed to run at the 3rd baseman because then he can tag you out and throw to first for a double play. By freezing, you force him to choose between getting you out or getting the guy out at first base. Him having time to get up and get the force at 2nd then get you out in a rundown is not how its supposed to play out.
I'll take my way and be comfortable with it.
