You think these schools just send money to the "people" around them to affect the kids decision? Guess I'm saying other people besides parents.

Of course they do. Schools aren't dumb. There's so many people that can influence decisions and football teams know who the influencers are. They do their research. Girlfriends get scholarships, family members get jobs/money or preferential job status where they currently work. It happens all the time. And those people who stand to benefit are the ones that influence these kids.
The big thing is that the more money you have the more you can throw your weight around. That's why I wish we could increase our revenue considerably more. Being last in the SEC in revenue automatically puts us at a disadvantage before we walk into a kid's house. But when it gets crunch time in recruiting is when it really starts to hurt.

You think schools are sending university budget funds, that have to be accounted for by multiple people and is open to the public to view, they are giving that money illegally to individuals for impermissible benefits?

Do you know how many people are on university payrolls? If I have you on payroll for a university I'm the President of and I pay you for consulting work or anything like that to bring in business for my student union, to figure out ways to make our campus more green or more energy efficient, what in the world can a governing body do if I tell you to use 5K of your salary to give to a kid that is coming on a visit on a Saturday?
They can't do a thing. And it's not that terribly difficult to cover that kind of stuff up in your own personal transactions. If you think that kind of stuff isn't happening, especially in the bigger universities that have bigger ties to the community, then you are just naive.

I'm kinda with you. I figured you wanted rich boosters who sling money to the family. But I just couldn't imagine them giving it to just people around them. Guess they figure out who influences them the most.

ole miss calls them "Champions"
In the lower right corner of its basic recruit information form, Ole Miss has a section for information about that recruit's "Champion." That's the person the player trusts the most, the person who will have the most input on the college choice. Sometimes the Champion is a coach. Sometimes it's a girlfriend or a buddy. Usually, the Champion is mama

I don't think that's the way it works generally (or maybe at all?). The foundation may do some of that, but I think most impermissible benefits go straight from Boosters to the recipient, without ever flowing through the university. So I don't think any TV money or ticket revenue or any official revenue of the school or athletic department goes to impermissible benefits, with the exception of Athletic Department jobs for influencers. I'm not even sure university contractors would get encouraged to hire an influencer, as then you're violating state procurement law. I don't think most of these coaches or employees want to put themselves out there like that; there are either boosters to provide the impermissible benefits or there aren't.

That’s never happening. Way way too many people to try and cover up funneling school money illegally. That’s a huge scandal waiting to happen. The closest thing ever done to that was during SMU scandal and they still didn’t funnel public funds from the athletic department. No school is taking their athletic revenue and giving it to individuals off the books for impermissible benefits. That’s just not happening

Easiest place to hide some of that kind of stuff is in plain sight. Happens in the education world all the time. You would be surprised how long it took to take those guys down because of the processes they had in place AND who all would stick their neck out to make that kind of stuff happen. Then think about the fact you are talking on the university level about millions and millions of dollars. That's a lot of stuff to sift through.

You have insinuated that all big programs are doing this. The shear number of individuals it would take to attempt this at one university, much less multiple universities most who are public schools doing the same thing, and no one has ever blown whistle? Not to mention you believe all of these presidents are signing off, when numerous presidents don’t even care about football. It’s not happening and would be one of the dumbest and illegal moves a school could contemplate. The number of people involved in the conspiracy and cover up, not to mention the third party oversite and college board who are not beholding to one particular school, they all turn a blind eye as well?

You thinking it takes that many people is what is incorrect. All it takes is 2 people. All I did was give an example using a President. Most likely it would be on a much smaller level. But if you think it doesn't sometimes happen this way then that's ok.
Of course the majority of stuff happens through boosters and stuff off the record. But don't you think that if everyone was doing it the exact same way that something would have been done about it? There's multiple ways to do this kind of stuff. I'm stunned people don't realize that. This is why the NCAA can't do anything. There are so many ways to accomplish this task that the NCAA just doesn't have the man power to connect the dots unless it's insane or a university got sloppy.
But I can promise you that it's not only not nearly as hard as you think it is, but that it doesn't require nearly as many people as you think it does.

There are multiple ways, outside of the university funds. That’s the issue. Schools are not using monies that are on the books. That would take way too many people, a lot more than 2, to cover up, including people at the university who could care less or downright hate athletics. And it’s being done all across the country at big programs without it ever being discovered or someone blowing the whistle in the last 50 years. No school has been busted using funds in that nature.
I think you are being naive and weaved something in your mind that would be a lot more difficult to pull off for decades over numerous universities. No whistle blower at the schools, no state auditors catching on to Cooked books, no reporter investigating misuse of public funds, etc. Way too many people involved to attempted and way too many third parties who would overlook the misuse

So we are roughly 2 weeks away how are we feeling about the closing of this class? Mingo, Plumlee, Young, James all still in play? Can we expect any surprises?

Yeah thanks. I didn't mean to create a long impermissible benefit discussion in this thread. We need to close strong with some of these guys. If Mingo doesn't flip, how do y'all feel about our receivers who have signed? We need some big contributors in a bad way,I believe, in order to make this offense work

I would list in order of likeliness 1. James (75%) 2. Young (60%) 3. Plumlee (45%) 4. Mingo (30%)

At 60%, I think it is a little more likely than not but in no way a guarantee. I like the way we've been trending with him and our efforts are heavily on him now that Moore is taking us for a bit of a ride.

To get either one, it is around 90% bc if the Johnson thing doesn't work out, Payton won't leave us for a G5 offer. If Johnson is a Dog (which is being worked through and a definitive possibility) I think there is a chance Payton will look elsewhere.

I'm glad to see you're high on us getting James, we really need him. Byron we are in good shape with but that figures probably about right. I'm a little higher on Plumlee and Mingo. I believe Plumlee at about 70% and Mingo 50/50(like these percentages really even mean anything lol!)
