Surprising results from SEC MBB today...
Alabama beats KY, SC wins @FL and OM wins @ Vandy.
-
Still hard to see Kermit at UNM, we wouldn't have Howland probably, but how did we get Ray instead of him?

SC win is super helpful. We've got them twice this year. Would love for them to find a way to get their NET ranking under 150. Florida isn't as good as they have been in the past. They will be a 8-10 seed probably though so that's still a good win

Not surprised at all...get ready for a bunch more like those before it's over.

I have no inside info but I've heard rumors from several people that it was:

This is how I read the tea leaves. We were looked at as a dirty program under Stansbury so Stricklin washed it clean and hired our first AA coach in basketball at the same time. Several alumni/boosters were pushing for Kenny Payne and he was going to bring World Wide Wes and dirty Nike/AAU tactics with him and Stricklin got scared at the last minute and hired a total nobody on his own that promised to completely clean us up and not swim in the cess pools known as AAU basketball. It was a giant turd expiremnt and Stricklin bolted as soon as he could 3 years later. Oh well it's over with now.

Strick refused to interview KD, then went and got Ray. They didn't want KD's baggage from his TAMU days.

That was the worst F U to the program Stricklin could ever have done. Davis practically begged for our job and would have brought Butch Pierre with him. I’m greatful Howland is here and the hard work he has put into building us back to where we should be but there was no reason in hell we should have destroyed our program like we did. It was totally unnecessary.

That was dumb as shit reasoning and I’m glad Loafers is no longer our AD.

Never really understood why we would hire a nobody like Ray over a successful alum like Kermit Davis. What kind of baggage did he supposedly have at TAMU?

Small NCAA trouble he had in one year at A&M that happened in the freaking 90-91 season. It was so long ago that the NCAA probably had forgotten about it. He had definitely made up for it and then some even by the point he was at in his tenure at MTSU when he would have been hired here. We are extremely extremely lucky that OM was not able to hire Butch Pierre due to the optics of the NC State FBI stuff otherwise with Pierre on staff Davis could have built a monster at OM like Brady did at LSU.

No Brady got lucked into a ton of NBA talent from Louisiana those years. Almost all those players were local talents.
Big Baby Davis, Darnell Lazare, Tyrus Thomas and Garrett Temple are all from Baton Rouge. They also had Tasmin Mitchell and Darell Mitchell from Louisiana. 4 of the 5 starters were from Baton Rouge and a couple of them played significant time in the NBA. That's just insane luck for LSU. Oxford areas isn't gonna suddenly have a plethora of NBA talent pop up any century soon.

You could say the same thing about us with players like Malik Newman (Horatio Webster), Tyson Carter (Greg Carter), Garrison Brooks (George Brooks), Reggie Perry (Al Perry), and Robert Woodard (Robert Woodard). We were able to land all but Brooks and this group laid the foundation for what we are doing now. We wouldn’t of landed any of these guys with Ray. You still have to have a guy to recruit them. Butch Pierre is a hell of a recruiter and did help land those guys at LSU. Davis (with Butch’s help) would of landed the MSU legacies as well. In other words, if you have a shit coach the talent isn’t going to just come your way. Rick Ray is proof of that.

Haven't seen this big a pile of dung since 34 stopped posting Stans crap!
Stans was fired without any idea who to hire as BB HC replacement. MAJOR screwup!
Coach34 .. "We're not hiring the ****ing Pirate at Miss State. GTFO"

-
Do not hire a hs cheerleader as your sec ad; thus endeth the lesson.

Similar but not the same. Tyrus Thomas was the #4 overall pick. Big Baby had a long successful NBA career. Garrett Temple is still playing in the NBA. That LSU team was stacked and it was almost all from Baton Rouge. Stars aligned for Brady with that team. It's a statistical anomaly to have 3 NBA players all come from a city of 200,000 all at the same time with several very good college players along side them as well also from Baton Rouge.
