Let's Check In on the Ole Miss OC Search....
Will be interesting to see what they do here.
Looks like they are having trouble getting someone to sign up for a 1 year gig with a 1st year QB.
What OC could they hire that would even be worth 7 figures?
After yesterday's signing class & the inability to get an OC, I could make an argument for OM firing Luke tomorrow. Why wait? All they are doing is delaying the inevitable, which is wasting a year. My guess is that they'd get more interest in their OC position if they fired Luke & hired a guy that the new OC knew would be there for 3-5 years

Hey man! They need to keep Luke. He is absolutely positively the best man for that job as I see it. Why even hire an OC? Luke would do a fantastic job. Get real man!

Luke is a good man. They would be terrible people to fire him. He should stay there for another 10 years.
-
The problem with firing Luke is that they have to find another coach with ties to the Network to keep things going. Heaven forbid that they have to live with David Cutcliffe style recruiting.**

Ta'amu, AJ Brown, DK Metcalf, and Lodge at skill positions. Jordan Sims, Sean Rawlings, Greg Little, and Javon Patterson on the line. That is some serious offensive talent to lose off a roster with little depth. And we know how the defense looks. They will hit bottom in 2019 and have to clean house after the season. And potential assistant coaches know it.
Of course it's all Leo's fault for lying.

That and the fact that I would guess that it is a real possibility that this is Luke's last year there. And certainly no more than two years left for him. Assistant coaches want to be somewhere that is somewhat stable at least. Add in the fact that it is demanded that they cheat and it's another mark against them.

I think they clean house after the 2019 Egg Bowl, and that includes Luke. The 2019 W/L record, ticket sales, and recruiting will demand it. They could lose to Memphis, Cal, Vandy, and Mizzou. And that doesn't include the SEC West.

I absolutely 100% agree. One more Egg Bowl blowout alone would be more than enough. I'd even say that there is a chance that they have an interim in place by the time the Egg Bowl rolls around.

You are correct about the interim possibility. The ticket sales are going to be terrible. Apathy and empty seats will dictate a change. I could honestly see them at 2-10 overall and 0-8 in the SEC. It could happen.

If we're lucky they'll go 5-7 or 6-6 and they'll have hope for Luke

5-7. I don't want them to go to a bowl.

I spoke with a die hard baby shark fan today and he said butts in seats along with depleted giving and going Ofer in the SEC next season will rid them of Bjork as well as Like.

Bjork will be first to go. The new AD will not want to hang his hat on Luke so that should be Luke’s undoing.

I have been around some of their boosters when they were talking. They EXPECT next year to be a down year and are mentally prepared for it. That may keep Luke around for another year - to give him a chance to show that he can turn it around.
-
I find it interesting that Luke, at least this year, is recruiting much like Mullen did when he got to state. Sign a ton of 3 star MS guys and try to develop them. Try to grind and build a program.

I think they may keep Luke two more years. They have to find a coach that is comfortable with the cheating and boosters acting like they're rock stars b/c they shell out tens of thousands to reel a kid in.

I know. But it is the more sustainable approach and is what they should do at least initially to get them respectable, whether it be with Luke or another coach.
