I hope we miss out on Kelly Bryant. He should've stayed this season in case they need him. He could still transfer in Dec. I seriously doubt he is working out as hard as he would be at Clemson

Red flags all over him. He is also not a pro talent.

If he would've stayed & played another down, his career would be over because he would've played in more than 4 games

I can't ever blame a guy for doing what's in the best interest of extending his career.

look at Garner Minshew. He's gone from 3rd string at Bama or finishing at East Carolina to likely a shot at an NFL career just because he transferred. Do you think it was wrong for Minshew to leave East Carolina where he would've been the starter?

You're wrong all over the place. He couldn't have stayed he's a Sr his only choice was to sit out after 4 games or his college career would be over. He may or may not be a pro talent but have you seen some of the QB's the NFL is trotting out on the field nowadays? I'll never say any kid who starts in college can't play pro ball after some of the guys I've seen.

Certainly happy with defensive class, but it?s never been more obvious defense alone ain?t gonna get it done. Hopefully we can pick up a few playmakers and sharpen up our schemes

Qb and oline solid. Need another couple playmaking WRs and a top RB though

While I definitely agree, I'm not sure some people understand just how much of a difference it's going to make when it comes to Nick Fitzgerald and Garrett Schrader running this offense. It will be a massive upgrade.

Eh, maybe... key was higher rated and mayden is pretty much rated the same. Never count a qb as a sure thing in recruiting.

Mayden HS numbers in 6A Texas...
    65% comp 7515 yds 86 td 9.54 yds/att

    Shrader...
    66% comp 4866 yds 53 td 8.88 yds/att

Mayden looks pretty good and played against top tier talent.

If key is the terrible fit being reported, I would rather see us give mayden a chance after a bowl prep and offseason than go after Bryant

As long as some one who isn't our graduating QB gets significant snaps I'll be fine.

I was just talking about Shrader because he is who JoMo has recruited so far.

I saw Mayden play in high school & he is/was very good.

One thing to keep in mind though, Mayden's team had I believe 10+ D1 signees on the team. That Sachse team was loaded with dudes going to Oklahoma State, Baylor, SMU, Penn State, etc. Ridiculous amount of talent. The night I watched them it looked they were playing against the school for the blind.

I don't know as much about the talent or lack thereof that Shrader is playing with, but Mayden was basically a Bama QB last year with incredible protection & wide open WRs.

That could definetely skew mayden's stats then

According to guy on 247 looking at a hs players stats is ridiculous way of evaluating. He said this after I proved him wrong about Key by showing him Keys hs stats.

High school stats do have to be taken with a grain of salt at the high school level for most positions.

I Think 95% of stats at the high school level need to be taken with a grain of salt.

I think at the extremes, they can be useful.

For example: whether Mayden & Shrader had a 50% or 70% completion % is completely useless & means nothing. It's about physical talent.

However, if Mayden or Shrader had a 30% completion % or an 80+& completion would be useful.

If a first round baseball player hits .220 his SR year of HS, it's a concern. If he hits .750 it can also be useful, but, if hitting .275 - .600 is pretty useless information.

Stats can also help you know what questions to ask a player.

I see a lot of folks say they don't want Bryant and I can't understand why. If he comes in and competes and wins the job then great. If he comes in and doesn't win the job, we know we have someone the coaches like better. Worst case he can be a backup. We've had QB's go down in the past. Another reason you take him is, even if he doesn't win our job, it doesn't mean he couldn't win Arky or Auburn's job. If that's the case, you just improved your odds against those two teams. He can't beat us if he's standing on our sideline.

As far as being a cancer in the locker room, I really don't think a guy can come in OUR locker room and in one year cause trouble among teammates. I think our team is too united at this point to have this happen, even though we lose a lot of Sr. leaders. We've had some in the past not so much and it could have happened. Not at this time in my opinion. Hell, we prepared and went out and beat a Heisman winner with GA's when we could have gone to a bowl and partied the whole time. I say let's get him.

I know he visits this weekend, but I saw where he already said when he was going to announce where he was going to go. Does that mean anything? As in, has he already decided before he visits us? I really don't see him wasting his time visiting if he already has a school in mind. It's not like he's in high school and just wants to take a trip. I'm thinking he knows he's finishing his trips and has just set a deadline to decide and announce. Of course, he could change that if he desires. Any thoughts?

Exactly you have to judge more on physical ability moreso than stats at the high school level. Stats I would guess are probably the most useful for high school running backs. With receivers their stats are so dependent on what kind of QB their high school team has and also the fact that they are going to be bracketed most of the time at that level. There are no consistent objective stats with high school offensive linemen. Defensively most high school teams are going to run away or scheme away from the elite defenders.

I think as far as the announcement he just wants to move on to the next stage as soon as possible. It sounds to me like he is going to pick us if the visit goes well. Just a guess based on rumors and things like that.

I like the fact that he has performed against SEC competition- Auburn, Texas A&M, and South Carolina on the road and then Alabama in the bowl game. That has to help with the learning curve because he has been in a SEC environment before and has won before. Including against the best team in the league.

One thing I like about Bryant after looking at his stats against SEC only teams- at least 65% completion rate in every game except against Alabama where he was at 50%.
