It's like they believe the State of Mississippi is some sort of prison that magically disappears when you cross state lines regardless of the other school is actually closer to home than the Mississippi school. I find it illogical.

I completely understand a kid wanting to go to Bama, UGA, or a particular school, but I don't get the overarching statement of "I want to go out of state".

It's never made sense to me unless they are ashamed of where they are from and look at a different state as being of higher status regardless of reality.

Not everyone is keen on the idea of living their entire life within the state of MS. As many others have said, we've all wanted to get away from home. The proximity of the school plays a role here because it's likely a place where he can say he "went out of state" and it's a place his family could actually see him play without watching on TV. A true compromise...it gives him the feeling of experiencing something different (however similar we may think it is, it's new to him) yet proximity isn't so far away that his family can't drive there.

At the end of the day, not everyone LOVES MS...but you can't pick where you're born. And he also doesn't have your life experience to compare with his feelings of getting out of MS come what may.
