Plus the NFL can always go sign somebody mid season. If they couldn't, you probably wouldn't see them with a 53 man roster. Just a back up at every position and a punter and kicker takes up all but 7 spots. You really have to have a third QB. And then you throw in trying to have the ability to play different formations, and 53 spots wouldn't be enough. Any one injury could put you in a position where a particular formation is out the window.
