But I do suspect that the roots of the behavior of the weird fans probably started with that program. Because whether you have a rig or not in the LFL knowing players is a status thing in Starkville. Having a rig AND knowing players? Mega Status in Starkville. We have plenty of fans like Maroon Mary that do the same things with players as far as being involved or over involved with MSU athletes.

The overall success of the baseball program only caused the roots to grow.
And you're probably right. I just don't understand how knowing players is a status thing. Like they're regular college kids who happen to play baseball. They still party, they still go to bars, they still do all the things that normal college kids do. They just are on the field playing while they're friends are drinking beer in the outfield.

It's just weird to me tbh. I was in school from 2012-2016 and we knew the players and hung out with them but it wasn't a big deal. They were students like the rest of us and they acted like that. We didn't treat them any differently. It just seems like since about 2018 our players have been put on this pedestal like they're these gods.
